This waterway always had paramount value, it connects Baltic and the Atlantic Ocean. The country, the controlling Eresunn, automatically became the mistress of the situation, each foreign ship passing through the passage had to pay duty.

It led

to the fact that the small fishing settlement of Havn (Havn) very quickly turned into the prospering city which became the capital of Denmark later. And all taxes flew in the state treasury of the country as the southern region of Sweden of Scania belonged to the Danish kingdom too (till 1658).

B 2000 there was a first bridge through Eresunn which connected Denmark and Sweden. Presently the eresunnsky region - the second for concentration of the population in northern Europe after St. Petersburg: Eresunn`s university is formed by 12 establishments belonging to Denmark and Sweden. And about 14 000 people daily use the bridge through Eresunn to reach work and study.
