What to look in Krakow at? Vavel ofIn Krakow, as well as in many other European cities, the main sight - the lock. In olden days in fortress city life was concentrated. The lock is at the height of 228 meters on the bank of the river of Vistula. It was one of the first and main strengthenings of the Slavic tribe vislyan. After return from the States was engaged in preparation national - liberating Polish revolt. It began in Krakow in 1794. Despite initial victories, revolt it was crushed, Kosciusko was arrested, and the Polish territories divided for the third time. After three sections Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth ceased to exist as the state. Lives Tadeush spent the last years in France, and died in Switzerland. Its ashes were reburied on Vavel in Saint Leonard`s crypt.

At vavelsky department there began the activity Karol Wojtyla - future Pope Ioann Pavel ˛˛. He was born in a small town to Vadovitsa near Krakow, and studied in Jagiellonian University at philosophical faculty. By the way, in it many famous Poles, including Nicolaus Copernicus studied. Many years of activity of Karol Voytyli were connected with Krakow: here he became a priest, gave lectures in a theological seminary, went in for dramatic art, wrote books. In 1958 he was imposed in the bishop`s dignity, and in several years was appointed the archbishop and the metropolitan of Krakow. Its activity became known far outside Poland. In 1978 he becomes the first Pope - the foreigner. He was considered as the Saint still during lifetime. His last words were: “I am full of pleasure, you also stay in pleasure. Let`s pray with pleasure together“. In the territory of Vavel there is a monument to one of the most great Poles.
By all means it is worth visiting the royal castle. Its interiors, halls and expositions dip us into the past of Poland. In halls royal rooms of the end of XVI, the beginnings of the 17th centuries are recreated. It is also possible to see Flemish gobelins, jewelry on a ceiling in the ambassadorial hall in the form of the carved painted heads of people, eaves. Men usually are interested in Armory where there are many exhibits of the weapon and a horse harness. It is also possible to descend in the Cathedral museum.
If to walk along a fortification, then the beautiful panoramic view of Vistula opens. On the river swans and ducks float. Beautiful photos turn out not only here. If to go down and feed birds, then it is possible to make some more good pictures. And if to rise by an observation deck of the Sandomirsky tower, then it is possible to get a bird`s eye view of the city. And further it is possible to go to a dragon cave. It is one of favourite places for photoshoots. As the legend narrates, in a cave under the hill there lived an angry dragon Smok who kept in awe all inhabitants in the district. People drove to it cattle and if were not in time, then the monster snatched also on them. The prince Krak sent the sons that those finished with a dragon, but it is vain. Then the prince ordered to look for the athlete who will be able to overcome a terrible monster. But no soldiers could cope with it. And then the shoemaker by the name of Skuba came. He decided to fight not by the force, but cunning. Killed a ram, filled him with sulfur and pitch and put near an entrance to a cave. The dragon ate a ram, and in his stomach fire flashed. The monster ran to Vistula and began to drink water: drank - drank, did not burst yet. The Skuba from a skin of a dragon sewed many boot. And the image of a dragon became one of city symbols. Continually souvenirs - drakonchik - toys, figurines, coins are on sale.
Now the Draconian cave is open for visitors. Its total length of 270 meters, but for tourists openly only 81. The route comes to an end on Vistula Embankment near a monument to a dragon. The flame proceeds from a monster mouth from time to time. Though it is necessary to be careful and not to approach closely to a mouth. Guides tell one sad case when the guy decided to glance in a mouth - then it was necessary to be treated for burns long. It is necessary to follow safety rules.
