Medieval Europe, France. What they are Carlovingians?Carlovingians - the dynasty of franksky kings which replaced Merovingov. The ancestor Karl Martell - the powerful favourite or the Mayor of the Palace, the first adviser to the king is considered.
F. - R. Chateaubriand calls the people ruling from a name Merovingov, ward mayors. The first ward mayor mentioned in chronicles - Goggon (6th century) . The person to this position was chosen not only by the king. A lot of things depended also on a team. On force of the power and honors of the ward mayor it is possible to equate to the duke. The king Lothair II in the 7th century made a position of the Mayor of the Palace hereditary.
At Lothair`s son Dagobert I, the first of a number of “lazy merovingsky kings“, there is an eminence of Mayors of the Palace whom first there was at once a little. They were even at enmity among themselves for the power and influence. Conflicts ended with Pipin Geristalsky`s victory. Karl Martell - the leader of the team which beat friezes, Germans, saxophones and even Arabs was his son also. Karl had big authority at army. Its huge influence on the solution of public affairs was an incitement to already solved business - to overthrow Merovingov from a throne. But the omnipotent favourite did not live up to an hour of triumph and his son Pipin Korotky was already spread on a kingdom in 752 g.
To Pipin his sons - Karloman and Karl inherited. Karloman died, and Karl who subsequently deserved a pro-rank Great became the individual governor of francs. Charles the Great - the most outstanding, perhaps, the representative of this dynasty. Formation of the Sacred Roman Empire is inseparably linked with his name as he is her first emperor. He is a creator of the empire. About Karl it is worth or saying much, in separate article, or only several words.
Charles the Great came out the winner in war with Lombards. The territory of won - Northern Italy - was a part of the state of francs. Then war with saxophones followed - and already all Italy submits to francs. Bavaria gave in too. In war with Avars the last were almost destroyed by Karl`s son - Pipin. Having won huge territories in which immediately began to extend Catholicism, Karl and Papa Adrian I conceived to unite them in one state - the Sacred Roman Empire. The imperial title was accepted, of course, by Charles the Great in 800 g. The Roman clergy could not rejoice on the king - the sphere of their influence extended not on days, and on hours. Karl was very devout, and also is very respectful to Papa and the Sacred city of Rome.
Egingard is the chronicler of those times, wrote many works, concerning Charles the Great`s life. And everywhere the king - the cleverest, the most brave, the most modest, the most pious and very best... What else to wait from the personal chronicler of the king for? Though there are data that the king was interested in science and overseas languages much. Samolichno resolved some delicate political affairs. Anyway actually, Karl`s empire was still very fragile what further events testify to. As it appeared, it is simpler to create the empire, than to keep it.
After death of the emperor in 814 g the crown was inherited by his son - Louis the Pious. The nickname the king, clear, received for extreme religiousness. Ludovic had no collateral children and was very modest in everything: in habits, in food, in life, in the relations with women. It was so devout and weak character that after death of the spouse Irmengarda wanted to take the vows. The severe spouse of the king all their joint life hardened him and did not allow to sigh that is called a full breast. Like cures like: confidants palmed off on Ludovic the young wife in time. About a monkhood it was instantly forgotten. The king blossomed and rejoiced to matrimonial happiness. The queen Yudif got huge influence on the spouse. But it, of course, struck at laws of succession of princes from the first wife in favor of the son Karl.
There was a revolt, and the queen was moved away to the monastery. However, then returned back as Ludovic stamped legs strongly and shouted very loudly that was not peculiar to him earlier. But he also did not love earlier so passionately. The queen from - for dynastic the conflicts will be still more than once in separation from the spouse. During that reign nobody knew rest.
Positions of children of the emperor were shared. Younger supported the father, is not present. It also is clear: in case of its leaving to the monastery nothing shines them. Ludovic pacified the senior - Lothair, forgave, but selected his possession. For what became his enemy until the end of life. Never the father and the son already finally will reconcile. Lothair was too greedy and perfidious. During the board Louis the Pious several times divided the empire between sons.
The right of precedence still at that time was not approved how the only way of inheritance of a throne. These continuous repartitions served as the reason of many mutinies: eternally somebody was dissatisfied, including himself deprived. In this situation will always be deprived. The royal family was multiplied, and lands were not enough for all. Initially it was the wrong policy of inheritance and served one of the reasons of disintegration of the Sacred Roman Empire. Uncountable number of times the emperor Ludovic and his sons Lothair, Karl and Ludovic were at war against each other, constantly running across from one camp in another. Approximately also their descendants also behaved.
After Ludovic`s death his son Lothair declared himself the king. Brothers did not agree. Nobody waited from them for humility. But that it is possible to try-. As a result, after numerous fights and truces - negotiations, Lothair got Provence, Burgundy, Italy. And already it divided these lands between the successors. The father`s mistakes taught nothing him.
The son - the namesake Ludovic set in on the German lands. One more son of Louis the Pious - Karl, received Lorraine. But subsequently took away all lands from nephews and already he is emperor Charles II Lysy. It was poisoned.
The following king - Charles III Tolsty, was so indecisive and coward that he preferred to pay off from enemies, but not to be at war. Besides, it had a severe mental disorder in which rush once even managed in the childhood to open own plot in youth against the father. Subsequently he suffered from epilepsy (epilepsy). Karl Tolsty was very unpopular in the people and in army. Nobody was afraid of it. Even own wife. It is unknown proceeding from what conjectures, but the king openly accused the spouse of change. Later she declared that in general still the virgin. Whether Richard`s queen decorated a crown with horns, or not - the king divorced her all the same.
Later there was a short reign of Arnulf who all the time was at war for a throne with rivals, as well as with external enemies - Moravian Slavs, and not only. Allegedly, it was poisoned.
The following king from a dynasty of Carlovingians - Louis III Slepoy managed to become famous for nothing as in the first serious conflict it was grabbed in captivity and is ruthlessly blinded by order of the margrave Friulian Berengaria. At it the empire also collapsed. The situation was a little similar to that to which Merovingi got several centuries ago. The dynasty became shallow. Great leaders ended.
Some more not outstanding kings - Louis IV Ditia, Louis V Lenivy, Carlovingians, reigned already in France, without being emperors of the Sacred Roman Empire which officially continued to exist, but any more not in those borders which were created for it by Charles the Great. Also the dynasty Lyudolfingov “lodged“ there already.
Soon the dynasty of Carlovingians was replaced also on a throne of France, younger and strong - Kapetingami.
