Small business: what to begin with? Search of idea: Business to create 3 stories of success

, having decided to begin the business? How “to push“ the career, without waiting for appointment to a new position? Heroes of the book of the scientist and the businessman Tina Silig act at the internal desire and interest - and try to obtain success. Their ideas are nuggets of opportunities which nobody else just did not see.

Before retirement my father was the successful corporate head. It gradually climbed a career ladder from the young engineer to the manager, and then and to the top manager of several large international companies. When I was a teenager, I was not surprised by a regularity (time in few years, as on hours) with which I learned that the father received the next post: it became vice-the president, senior vice-the president, vice-the president of group of companies and so on. Achievements of the father always made great impression on me, and he seemed to me an ideal example for imitation.

Considering it, I was much surprised as far as the father when I showed it one of the business cards became angry. On it it was written “Tina Silig, the president“. At that time I began own business - the project and printed to myself business cards. The father looked at a card, then on me and after that said:“ You cannot take and call just like that yourself the president“. In its representation I needed to wait until someone another appoints me to a leader post. I could not make it. The father was so shipped in the world where career and appointment to a responsible position depend on the decision of other people that it did not like at all impudence with which I lifted myself on so considerable height.

Ya constantly I face similar type of thinking. For example, twenty years ago, when I told one girlfriend that I plan to write the book, she asked: “Why you think that you are able to make it?“ She just could not imagine that I am ready to undertake the similar project without approval from above. I considered that to me it quite on forces. Of course, it was the courageous task, but why not to try?

At that time in the market. I very much wanted to read something on this subject and as did not find the book necessary to me, decided to write it. I was not an expert in this area, but as the typical scientist considered that I will be able to deal with a subject of the course. I made the detailed offer for publishers, wrote couple of chapters on test, distributed them and through some time received the order for work.

I fairly was surprised with

After a release of the first book to unavailability of publishers to be engaged in its advance and decided to create the company which would help authors (drawing more attention to their works) and to readers (telling about books which could be of interest to them). And again improbable number of people began to ask me questions of my ability to cope with this task. Certainly, such business for me was a new experience, however I considered that I will be able to deal with it.

Ya began with

the BookBrowser project in 1991, several years prior to the birth of the World wide web. My idea consisted in creating in bookstores system of booths by means of which clients could find the books corresponding to their interests.

Ya made a prototype of an operating system for booths on the Mac computer by means of the HyperCard program allowing users to make references from one card to another like habitual to us hyperlinks now. My program allowed users to monitor the exiles connected with a certain author, the name of the book or a genre. Also I met directors of several local bookstores which agreed to put my booths in the halls. I communicated in about tens of publishers, and they with big enthusiasm treated idea of addition of books in my system.

Having convinced by

that the idea meets understanding, I employed team of programmers for development of a product. Nobody spoke to me as as it is necessary to do... I just made that I considered it necessary.

over time I became better to understand

that the world is divided into people who are eager when someone another permits to them to do what is pleasant to them and people who give themselves this permission. Someone looks for motivation in himself, and someone waits for a push from the outside. My personal example tells a lot of things about independent search of opportunities: I never waited that someone will come and will tell, than I should be engaged.

I consider

Ya that in the world there are always white spots which need to be filled, and the gold nuggets of opportunities lying under legs and waiting that someone at last will lift them. Sometimes for this purpose it is necessary to look under own table, to leave the house, to cross the street or to turn for a corner. However be sure: nuggets around you really are, and they wait for the owner.

Paul Yok came to this conclusion in due time, now he holds a post of the director of the Stanford BioDesign program. He studied at the medical faculty located literally through the road from engineering. About ten years ago Paul understood that Stanford misses a great opportunity, without helping students and teachers of medical faculty to work together with students and teachers of engineering faculty on new medical technologies.

to Physicians - doctors, students and researchers - needed the engineers capable to develop new products and processes for improvement of service of patients. Engineers needed fresh problems to which solution could apply the skills. Within several months interested parties met and discussed possible ways of collaboration. Process went quite hardly as both groups got used to work absolutely differently and even spoke different languages. Over time, however, they managed to come to consensus as a result of which on light and the BioDesign program appeared.

Approximately at the same time some of their colleagues from other areas connected with medicine and technologies also created similar associations, and a number of these associations united under one big roof known under the name BioX. This idea was so large-scale that its realization required several years. Resulted not only close and productive cooperation between representatives of various disciplines, but also the beautiful new building which from now on is standing between medical and engineering faculties. This history illustrates the fact that you can sometimes find new opportunities directly through the road - for this purpose you need to get up only from - for the table. Nobody said to Paul that he needs to do these or those things. He saw gaps and filled them.

One more way to be engaged in realization of a new opportunity consists in looking at things which ignored all others, and to find a way to create from them something useful. In many projects the improbable value which is thoughtlessly thrown by participants is often hidden.

Michael Diring began with

the career in department of strategic planning of the Disney company, then started the unsuccessful project in retail, and then it appeared among employees of eBay, the leading world on-line auction. First work which absolutely did not please him was charged to Michael. He decided to use the free time for studying of properties of the program for management of auction which was developed, and then is forgotten or thrown.

Outside 2000 stood. Michael noticed that the program has a new option allowing clients to add to the usual lot the photo for additional 25 cents. Only 10 percent of clients of eBay used it. Michael spent some time behind the analysis of advantages of this service and could prove that products with photos are on sale quicker and at higher price, than the others. Having armed with convincing data, it began to advance more actively service among visitors. As a result instead of former 10 percent 60 percent of clients very soon began to use an option. It provided to eBay additional 300 million dollars of the income per year. Without any instructions or instructions from Michael could find a pot of gold and developed it with tremendous results. Expenses for the company were minimum, and the profit was considerable.

It. Still he wrote by the child letters to celebrities and with pleasure noted that the majority of them answered it. This habit remained with it and until now: he sends e-mails to the people who are pleasant to it. Almost always he receives letters in reply, and quite often it leads to emergence of long-term communications and interesting opportunities.

He never and asks about anything the interlocutors. In the first letter he just thanks them for what they made, pays tribute to their achievements, asks simple questions or offers the help. He does not wait until someone allows it to contact these people, and independently takes the first step.

quite large number of the researches confirming that the people wishing to expand limits of the available skills and to risk in attempts to try something new have much more chances of success, than those who believe that they have some congenital abilities and therefore becomes isolated within a certain role Exists. People who had an accurate image of what they are capable of, will not take steps having chance to break this image. And people with the thinking focused on growth are usually ready to undertake risks and to work much more for achievement of the purposes. They want to try something new, allowing them to expand borders of opportunities and to open absolutely new zones on the way.
