Horrors of an adult lexicon, or About vain eloquence of

As we, adults, talk to children? What words and phrases we use? Sometimes our speech is ridiculous, sometimes is offensive and is not always clear to children. Dear adults, let`s see to own speech, and we will speak so that children understood us.

I Remember

that I, being a schoolgirl of elementary grades, not always understood what teachers spoke about. For example, one teacher to us often repeated: “Your behavior was indigestible!“ Having listened once again to this phrase (and she repeated it very often!), I, being a first grader, usually reflected over her contents: “It is indigestible - it is bad or good?“ And this our teacher in an apron and with a serving spoon in the hand conjuring something with pans or at home in kitchen or in a school office of housekeeping was for some reason presented to me.

Other teacher, probably (as already became me clear much later), meaning some roughness and excessive arrogance of this or that pupil (what children call “voobrazhulya“), often spoke so:“ He is (pupil) directly - built himself to a pedestal, praised the precious personality to high heaven so that and on a goat you will not drive up to it“. Probably, I was not too sharp-witted first grader since my brain could not decipher sense of this speech message of the teacher in any way. The word was “built“ by me understood how “this boy behaved some in a special way“. “Uplifted“ the word prompted to me that it at the same time somewhere “bore“ something. And, maybe, also “carried away“ absolutely. But and here the unfortunate goat on whom our teacher for some reason had to go somewhere and, most likely, did not reach, judging by her dissatisfied tone and loudness of the statement, I resolutely did not understand. Still to me “the horned goat“ who periodically came “for small children“ that cruelly to butt them saw each other here. Generally, that boy and a pet with horns to me somehow were especially remembered.

Other example from the same series “goat“ or, I would even tell, “goat“ statements of adults was such. One our teacher often repeated words: “Made a goat muzzle!“ If, for example, the pupil did not execute what was set on the house, or could not repeat what was just explained by the teacher in a class, or in some way brought her and upset, “the kind teacher“ right there inserted a favourite trope into the emotional speech: “I to it (pupil) am a solid hour explained, and he to me at the following lesson made a goat muzzle!“ Or: “I about it asked her (schoolgirl), and she to me in reply made a goat muzzle!“ I attentively watched the schoolmates, but never noticed that someone from them built to that offended teacher of a mug. “Perhaps, they got up it with it alone that nobody else did not see it?!“ - I argued. But long time for me remained secret how and when my schoolmates pulled faces, in particular, “goat muzzles“, to our teacher, representing at her in the face of young goats and nanny-goats.

A other teacher constantly repeated such phrase: “And you to him / her (meant to the pupil / schoolgirl) so pig-headed!“ Now - that I know value of the verb “tesat“. But in elementary grades I did not know it. And, probably, therefore the verb “mothers-in-law“ in a fluent speech of the teacher to me was heard as “scratch“, the initial form - “to scratch“. At the word “stake“ I then knew only one value - “the lowest and shameful school mark“, in other words - “unit“. And even from my school experience I knew that at the end of especially important final lessons of this or that subject the teacher before a call distributed to us, to the pupils who were especially well working in a class and answering everything it is correct, the big “five“ and “fours“ of red color which are cut out from a dense cardboard and of the size of a palm. And when I heard the mysterious phrase of the teacher about “stake“ which it, probably, was going to give to the unsuccessful pupil, my imagination drew big cardboard “unit“ of black color which had to appear by all means on the head of my careless schoolmate. Only I could not understand in any way that the teacher with cardboard “stake“ of black color on the pupil`s head is going to do - or to scratch “stake“, or to comb - to comb - to brush with this cardboard symbol of not success of the doctrine the head of the poor child that, probably, is terrible punishment and a shame.

other teacher at the lessons often repeated

A: “It is some phantasmagoria!“ I then did not know this compound long word. I thought that “Phantasmagoria“ is a proper name. So call the woman. And this woman - the sister Fantomasa. And, probably, it, from where - that from mountains. Fantomas in the well-known cinema in mountains hid. But why the teacher mentioned the sister of the famous film character all the time and that she has the general with our lessons, I could not understand in any way.

the Following expression of adults which I not only did not understand, but also which I fairly a scarecrow, was the phrase, harmless for adults:“ The bad head does not give to hands (legs) of rest“. In the childhood, probably, read to me different fairy tales and stories much. Possibly, among them there was something and about the separate head which conducted life, absolutely independent from a body. You remember “The head of professor Douel“ of Alexander Belyaev and a talking head from Pushkin`s fairy tales? For some reason “The bad head does not give every time when I heard expression to hands (legs) of rest“, I did not connect it with own golovushka in any way. No, the certain human head, separate of a trunk, fixed in some way on the hill by ropes, pegs, belts and ropes was presented to me. And the head this bad sharp-sightedly watches from the hill small kids, without giving them thereby minutes of rest. Sometimes such “bad heads“ even dreamed me in a dream.

also. Here some of them.

Almost philosophical useless talks: If we, adults, in conversation with the child do not have enough patience, clever arguments and logical explanations, then we compensate shortage this by the loudness of the voice, dreadfulness of tone, and still roughness of words and even curses that is neurotic communication in pure form.

Here so adults sometimes talk to children, and so their children, these eloquent adults, understand. But these adults persistently continue and continue to repeat to children personal and others` pearls, reveling own as it seems to them, eloquence. They are sure that repetition - mother of the doctrine. But clever repetition - mother of the doctrine, but not thoughtless and mad repetition. And in general poor children have nothing to repeat in the course of the day hundred times about “the bad head“ and “a combing stake“! And that instead of eloquence turns out chernorechy, and instead of normal communication - communication neurotic. Think of it at a leisure, dear adults!

the wish Is simple

: In parents everything has to be fine: both soul, and business, and words, and thoughts! Watch soul, affairs, words and thoughts, dear adults!

One more wish: Dear adults! Let is always present at your speech belorechy. And, whenever possible, absolutely is absent chernorechy!
