Before the XX century knew nine subspecies of a tiger, but for the last 80 years three of them are considered completely exterminated by the person:

The Balinese tiger lived only on the island of Bali and it is considered disappeared a look since 1937. On it conducted purposeful hunting because it was considered as the embodiment of the evil in culture of locals.

The Transcaucasian tiger was completely exterminated at the end 60 - x years by the person. It differed from other subspecies in longer wool and a color: strips on wool settled down more closely to each other and had darkly - brown color. It is known that this look was used by Romans in gladiatorial fights.

The Javanese tiger died out in 80 - x years, from - for the fact that people deprived of it a native habitat, pushing aside it coffee plantations. These subspecies lived on Java Island from where it received the name.

The remained 6 subspecies of a tiger are under protection of various organizations and the Red List:

Bengalese tiger has the biggest population, in comparison with other subspecies, and makes about 40% of number of all tigers. In 1972 the large-scale and successful project under the name “Project Tiger“ directed to preservation and increase in quantity of tigers in the territory of India was created.

Indochina tiger differs from others in more dark coloring of wool.

Malayan tiger - subspecies, the third on population. Lives only on the Malakkaysky peninsula.

The Amur tiger , we still know it under the name a Siberian and Siberian tiger. It is considered one of the largest representatives cat`s and lives in the territory of Primorsky and Khabarovsk Krai.

Sumatransky tiger lives only on the island of Sumatra and differs in the small sizes concerning other types. The main threat of destruction of subspecies is deforestation and deprivation of a native habitat, and also poaching.

Chinese tiger is under the threat of disappearance, it is considered that there is no they left in the wild nature at all.

Interesting facts:

- at a tiger duplicate strips on wool and skin therefore if to shave it, it all the same will remain striped;

- tigers love water and are great swimmers;

- voices of tigers are also unique, as well as voices of dolphins;

- pupils at tigers round.

Reproduction. the Pregnant tigress chooses the secluded place for the birth and education of cubs. Most often it is a cave, thickets or stone crevices. The female can remain in such place several years in a row. Tiger cubs are born blind people and weigh to 1,5 kg, but in a week they already open eyes. The first months kids eat only milk, but 1,5 - 2 months later meat begins to enter their diet. In two months after the birth the family in full strength begins to leave a shelter. Completely independent tiger cubs become at the age of 18 months, but all the same do not hurry to abandon mother and can remain with her to 3 years. When young tiger cubs abandon the mother, males, as a rule, leave far from her territory, however young females occupy the territory nearby.

Interesting facts:

- the tigress is capable to conceive posterity only several days in a year;

- the tigress brings from 2 - 3 (thicket) to 5 - 6 (less often) than tiger cubs;

- life expectancy of a tiger as well as in the wild nature, and in bondage, makes about 25 years.

White and gold tiger. the White Bengalese tiger meets most often in bondage and perfectly breeds. Unusual coloring is caused by a mutation at which tiger cubs are born with brown strips on snow-white fur and blue eyes. It is known that about 130 white tigers living in zoos are descendants of one tiger who still the kid was found by hunters in 1951. The gold tiger meets seldom. There is an unproven theory according to which it is considered that this color appeared at one group of tigers who lived in territories with the clay soil and were crossed among themselves.

Interesting facts:

- the white tiger is not an albino as it is mistakenly considered to be;

- from - for the fact that one gene, at white tigers blue eyes is responsible for color of wool and for color of eyes at tigers.

Protection. the Tiger is included in the Red List of the International Union of Conservation and the Red List of Russia. Today catching and hunting for this powerful animal it is forbidden around the world. In the wild nature and in bondage there are only about 5000 individuals (according to different data from 3500 to 6500).

Day of a tiger. Since 2010 on July 29 celebrates the International day of a tiger. It was accepted in the northern capital at the International forum “Tigerish Summit“. The purpose of this action - to increase population of tigers till 2022 twice.

Since 2000 every fourth Sunday of September in Vladivostok is celebrated Day of the Amur Tiger.
