Than crossword puzzles and puzzles are useful?many sincerely believe In our rational time that crossword puzzles, solitaires, checkers and other games - only an effective remedy “to kill“ time, and more from them I pound any. But the last researches of scientists disprove it. It appears, “useless toys“ are capable to protect from Alzheimer`s disease.
the Results of research presented in Copenhagen at the international conference of Association of Alzheimer demonstrate that the games stimulating brain activity can promote safety of vulnerable structures of a brain and cognitive functions.
People who while away time by means of the games stimulating thought processes show the best results in memory, ability tests to training and perception of information - researchers claim.
Scientists from Alzheimer`s Institute and the Research center of Alzheimer`s disease in Wisconsin, the USA, studied 329 people whose middle age made 60 years. These people were healthy, but are subject to risk of development of an illness that was confirmed by genetic features or family history.
Except a series of medical tests, cognitive estimates and scanning of a brain, participants of research were asked, how often they read, visit the museums, play cards or solve puzzles.
It turned out that those who are fond of checkers, the cards, crossword puzzles and other games demanding reflections showed the best results in cognitive tests and to a thicket possessed large volume of the sites of a brain subject to risk of development of Alzheimer`s disease. Such picture allowed researchers to draw a conclusion that to some people the interest in intellectual games can help to prevent an illness.
According to experts, similar observation researches are not capable to reveal prichinno - investigative communications, i.e. they do not answer questions why there are these or those processes. However these researches can be useful to identification of the factors influencing risks of memory impairment and dementia.
Commenting on results of work of scientists from Wisconsin, doctor Laura Fipps from the British Research center of Alzheimer assumed that, perhaps, it is all about somebody “a cognitive reserve“ which is formed by an active brain and allows it to resist the damages caused by an illness longer.
“It is important to note that people in this research had no weak-mindedness, and we cannot claim, based on its results, that the card play, reading books and solving of crossword puzzles prevents a [painful] state. The best proofs demonstrate that we can reduce risk of dementia, adhering to a healthy lifestyle: the balanced food, a healthy diet, regular exercises, having refused smoking, supporting normal a blood pressure and weight“, - doctor Fipps believes.
Thus, “clever games“ give to elderly people chance which realization in many respects depends on them. Intellectual occupations will not replace physical activity and a healthy lifestyle, but as addition to them will help to keep clarity of mind for a long time.
Play and be not ill!
