The general Dukhonin is the organizer of counterrevolution or the last defender of the Russian republic?
At the State Meeting in August, 1917 Pyotr Alekseevich Kropotkin proposed unexpected for the devout anarchist - to proclaim Russia the republic. The provisional government listened to opinion of the famous revolutionary and on September 1, 1917 proclaimed Russia the republic, considering that this step will provide the world in the country and will eliminate its slipping in horror of Civil war.
It is known that the first who opposed the young Russian republic. It should be noted that they acted under very modest slogan: “Down with 10 ministers - capitalists!“
However the subsequent events showed that Lenin appeared obviously insufficient to be limited to arrest only of ministers - capitalists. In September, 1917, i.e. after declaration of Russia as the republic, the chief of a staff of the Rate there was a general - the lieutenant N. N. Dukhonin who with disappearance from a political scene of A. F. Kerensky became, according to the Charter of the Russian army, the Supreme Commander. Upon transition of the power to hands of “workers“, i.e. to hands of Bolsheviks, not only capitalists were enemies. Among the first enemies of “public authority“ there was also a general Dukhonin, the last Supreme Commander of army of the Russian republic.
Despite the important victories won by Bolsheviks, Lenin had many problems. Right after October revolution Bolsheviks faced boycott of the socialist parties. These days Executive committee of railway labor union Vikzhel declared the II Congress of Councils illegal and demanded to create the uniform socialist government from all socialist parties. At the same time the right socialists insisted on nonparticipation in the government “personal responsible for October revolution Lenin and Trotsky“.
At this conjuncture serious danger to Lenin wishing to set the mode of one-party dictatorship in Russia was represented by the Rate of the Russian army not under control to it.
Early in the morning on November 8, 1917 Nikolay Nikolaevich Dukhonin received the order of Council of People`s Commissars on the immediate beginning of preliminary negotiations with Germans concerning a truce. The General headquarters rate preferred not to respond with the Russian army to this dispatch. Days later the leader of Bolsheviks demanded the general to a direct line. Conversation lasted two and a half hours. When the order to immediately obey to the new government was made to Dukhonin in a categorical form, he answered with flat refusal. Nikolay Nikolaevich declared that nobody authorized Council of People`s Commissars for adoption of such fatal decisions. In reply Lenin dictated the order: “We dismiss you from a post for disobedience“.
In the conversation with Lenin the general Dukhonin in a correct form asked specific questions. Lenin could not do anything concrete to prompt to Dukhonin as itself does not know what should be done for a truce. Lenin does not need quiet serious conversation - it has other task. It needs only an occasion to get rid of Dukhonin, to replace it with the person.
The subsequent events showed that Lenin`s words about “responsibility under laws of a severe wartime“ were not empty threat. In two days prior to the tragic death the general Dukhonin spoke: “I know what expects me“. He believed that it, it is similar to many other, will put in the Peter and Paul Fortress and will judge. However he was mistaken. On November 20, 1917 the ensign Krylenko with group of revolutionary forces arrived to Mogilev where discharged the general N. N. of a position. Dukhonin. As a part of group there was also a team of killers which suited mob killings - the general Dukhonin was brutally killed.
In Lenin`s PSS it is possible to read the reference on the general Dukhonin:
“Dukhonin, N. of N (1876-1917) - the general of imperial army, the monarchist. In September, 1917 bourgeois Provisional government it is appointed the chief of a staff of the Supreme Commander. After the October socialist revolution declared himself the Supreme Commander and tried to organize counter-revolutionary rebellion against the Soviet power. For refusal to execute the instruction of SNK from 7 on November (20), 1917 about an immediate truce and opening of negotiations with the warring countries for the conclusion of the peace treaty it was displaced from the post and it is arrested in the Rate. It is killed by the risen soldiers“.
In the years of Civil war at red appeared many popular expressions designating execution, “the highest measure“ etc. Began “to send to one of the first to a staff to Dukhonin“.
We admit the obvious facts. The general Dukhonin was not either an impostor, or the monarchist. He did not try to organize counter-revolutionary rebellion against the Soviet power.
The general N. N. Dukhonin was the last general of the First Russian republic. And V. I. Lenin, the leader of “the world proletariat“ who organized counter-revolutionary coup which destroyed the Russian republic in October, 1917 was a counter-revolutionary.
