Electronic or paper books it is better? (part 4 “Advantages“)

It is the last article from this subject. More precisely this and 3i previous were one article, but it was necessary to divide them since the quantity of symbols in the publication is limited. But the subsequent articles do not publish therefore I decided to lay out already other material without editing it for publications any more and to finish the thoughts concerning this subject and everyone could will study, information already on my blog of the ShZh project. Nevertheless, judging from rough polemic concerning my first article it becomes obvious that the subject more than is actual. And proceeding from the fact that for many my opinion was a nonsense in spite of the fact that reasonable arguments from their party were not given: I think much it will be very useful will get acquainted with them, and, above all to analyse and show consideration to previous, to articles of this subject and their discussions. At the same time it is very important to reject personal ambitions and prejudices. Alas, analyzing discussions of this subject, it turned out that it comes to much not easily. They literally “have a wall of subjective offenses“ against common sense. In addition I found some articles of this subject in the Internet. Is of course from them and such which share my point of view, but there are simply absurd. The most disgusting is the fact that one of absurd articles which I had to read is disguised under scientific material with sociological researches. It is unlikely most of ordinary inhabitants having read it will be able to find forgery. It is a pity that I have no time to comment on it, and also to describe a great number of others as theoretical and practical moments concerning paper books. But perhaps in the future I will describe them since this knowledge and abilities very much help me and it would be desirable will share councils with others. But all this later. Now I spread old material. The termination of old article which had to be cut down.

Now, for the end that, there is a wish to give the facts of advantages of e-books over paper.
1 - is incomparable the small sizes of e-books. Though this expression is possible and it is not correct as the e-book is just the sequence which is written down on any electronic carriers, and they in turn decrease in sizes most likely in a geometrical progression - under Moore`s law. Therefore the volume occupied by e-books it is insignificant it is small and continues to decrease, as well as the cost of these carriers. And possibilities of number of the written-down information grow. Already everyone, literally for kopeks, can get an electronic medium of such size and capacity that can become the happy owner of small library which will be located in a pocket.
2 - convenient navigation. Alas, not always use this navigation, even skilled readers of e-books. On different devices it is realized on a miscellaneous. From banal bookmarks (like paper books), to a possibility of creation of the difficult list of bookmarks, tables of contents, subcategories, search with illumination and many other. For this purpose special skills and abilities are not required. It is just necessary to understand once the principle and it is possible to use it constantly. I like realization of all these functions in such programs as Microsoft office 2010 or PDFXCview. Unfortunately, in linusovsky analogs of maykrosoftovsky office at the moment these functions are not so convenient though are also realized.
Thus, instead of usual books the reader can create bookmarks in bookmarks, add and delete notes. And at desire practical instantly to find any word which occurs in the text, besides all of the familiar search in contents realized in usual books only sometimes having any indexes.
3 - Search in the text on all computer. It not the same that search in the open document / book. I do not know how it is correct to explain, but I will give analogy. Let`s allow you came to library, and you should find some certain word which meets seldom. But in what book it can will meet - it is unknown. And there is even no information - on what shelf there can be this book. The task with library seems practical, is not feasible. While on the computer she can solve with ease by means of the Archivarius 3000 program. Unfortunately did not find worthy free analog of this program yet. Nevertheless, if strongly it is necessary, it can be got. It after creation of the database can run for such search. I.e. you can find someone`s surname if you make full indexation and this surname really meets anywhere on your computer. And for this purpose it will not be required to open numerous documents. If the word meets, then the program will find its practical where it was. As is able to work with a set of various formats and codings. Perhaps, in it there is not enough advantage when reading novels. But if at you for example on the computer it is written down couple of hundreds of books in chemistry on condition that in the book there is a text, but not just the scanner the picture - that thus it is possible without opening to find each book for example the necessary chemical if it in them meets literally in a couple of minutes.
4 - a possibility of copying of e-books. Already wrote about it but I staticize and I will repeat with examples. For example: it is unlikely you with such ease can, copy to the friend the paper book. Or you will be able will share, with someone in the neighboring country, in only a few seconds without leaving the house. E-books by means of the Internet it is possible shares with a huge number of people and practical it is instant. Often, these actions can lead to copyright infringement. But it is a separate big subject which it would be desirable to mention another time. Since it includes morally ethical, legislative questions and to consider everything pros and cons as shortcomings - violations of authorship, and advantage - availability of information, possibility of acquisition by the same authors of huge popularity etc. But I consider that the knowledge should not be limited to financial or spatial obstacles. Other question, as authors have to be rewarded for the work. So there is a lot of nuances.
the Similar situation already was when steel appears presses. Books with ease began to reprint, but not to be written manually. This benefit - caused the mass of a protest. Many, as well as now, could not will be measured with innovations, despite all their appeal. Also the rights of authors were violated. And clerks who to the invention of cars rewrote books manually were left without work. But then, people changed the relations, and it became clear to all that this technology can be used also for the good of authors, and readers. Books though fell in price many times, but at the expense of their set of copies authors began to get profits even more, and readers had a fine opportunity to become more educated. Perhaps, thanks to it we also have the developed civilization, but we do not run still on the woods in search of food, and we die of parasites and predators as wild ancestors or animals.
I Apologize for so long lyrical digression. But I think, everyone has to understand importance of free possibility of information transfer and prospect which give to mankind electronic technologies.
5 - can involve in e-books possibilities of which is not present in usual. For example: creation of hyperlinks on which the reader can pass with one movement of a finger to that object. Of course, and in paper books it is possible to make references. But in difference from electronic naturally there is no opportunity will so quickly study information to which the author referred. In some books (to be exact in certain formats: for example. pdf) realized an opportunity embedding in the text and viewing of 3D objects. What is very evident. I.e. it is possible to place the three-dimensional image of some detail of the engine, a difficult molecule, or part of a body in the text. Then the reader can will get acquainted with her besides the description literally personally: turning in different foreshortenings. But I will not give all innovative opportunities. And many can tell that it is not the book any more, and is unclear that. Though it is the reader could tell and when color pictures were published in usual books. Therefore a couple of a side is not present and this criticism is not fair.

6 - for creation of the e-book as it is not banal will sound, paper is not required. Thereby the e-book is more eco-friendly by production. But also here it is possible to begin to argue. That for creation of electronic media other material is spent what harms ecology too. But taking into account the fact that the electronic medium is more universal and it is intended not only for books, and also if to consider the sizes of e-books the description in 1 fact will become clear that having passed to electronic media first of all the woods which by production of paper are spent extremely prodigally will be kept.
7 - most important - I for example do not read the book any more, and I listen by means of a speech synthesizer. The same tkht formats (which occupy very small memory size) - not to confuse to audiobooks (bulky records of the dictated text it is similar to songs). Now it is possible to listen to the text by means of the program installed on the smartphone (for example - Sakrament TextReader). Here already roofs &ndash are higher than advantages; you go to yourself down the street and you listen as the program reads you any book. If necessary it is possible to put on a pause, to accelerate or slow down reading, to add a bookmark and will get acquainted with a concrete site of the text in more detail: or having read it independently from phone screen, or later already on the computer. Unfortunately, this program also paid, and free analog for the smartphone I did not find, but it is worth it. Similar programs are also for other devices and operating systems. Including free. But alas, they do not enjoy wide popularity yet though many use them and prospects in their use weight. But it is besides a separate subject.
Here in principle the most considerable and main advantages. But with development of their technologies becomes more and more.
Of course, for use fully of all opportunities of e-books, are necessary additional skills and abilities, besides usual ability to read and turn over pages. Do not teach these useful skills neither at schools, nor in higher education institutions. Perhaps, it also pushes away many. And from - for unwillingness that studies what in addition, and without seeing all prospects people and invent different excuses in which begin to trust later. I will not be will be pressed into subconsciousness work, and mechanisms of self-deception which prospers now; so far I will stop that having mastered abilities of work with e-books readers will move to essentially new level of knowledge acquisition and information processing.
Finally would like to note that not any library could brag of such number of books which are stored at many on the hard drive of the computer. And, above all books naturally do not take so much place as paper, and they can be given, without being afraid to lose. Interesting the fact that I few times suggested to copy books in library, but for a number of reasons could not make it. And librarians often treated it skeptically and cautiously. Perhaps, from - for protection of copyright, now many students still in the old manner use paper options which in library as always catastrophic is not enough. And all this paperwork and lack of material does not promote a development of education and continues an agiotage with paper. Paper books do not interest me at all. If the necessary book falls into hands, I can digitize it within 3 - 4 hours then to give back. Couple of books to me had even to be numbered by means of the camera. Alas, from them it is not so simple to find many therefore I try to share them with everyone on the Internet. But besides there is no wish for problems with some aggressive-minded authors; which in principle could extend electronic versions of books becoming more popular using all opportunities of modern technologies and earning even more than if it gave the book to printing house (for example - to advertizing). On textbooks for higher education institutions it would be desirable will stop separately. In higher education institutions a situation even more placheny. Often try to impose to students, to put it mildly, purchase of paper books which for frequent are, I apologize for expression, hack-work. Thereby on poor students both printing houses and teachers and authors of books, not pure on a hand, are fed. While electronic version of books could become one of saving straws, not only for sinking in corruption and ignorance of an education system, but also science. And necessary students for training could lay out books officially in free access, having saved on printing house and having given this money to authors of books. But it is already other subject …
