What is Internet?

the Foundation to this phenomenon were laid 60 at the end - x when the Pentagon suggested scientists - to experts in computer facilities to develop algorithms for exchange of information of unlimited number of users without participation of the computer controlling network functioning. According to pentagonovsky strategists, existence of the main computer and central control panel a network did it too vulnerable in case of the nuclear conflict.

In 1969, relying on new then technology of package switching, under the auspices of the Pentagon the Arpanet network was created. The original technological decisions put in it were used in Internet subsequently. At the first stage Arpanet only connected among themselves four research laboratories, thereby, having allowed scientists and engineers to test quickly new ideas in the field of technology of computer networks.

But soon tens of universities and companies were connected to Arpanet, each of which introduced the in the general moneybox that in general significantly expanded possibilities of a network and a circle of the services provided by it. Programs by means of which subscribers could exchange e-mail, work with remote databases, start programs on supercomputers from other cities and in common solve the arising problems on network teleconferences were created.

But the main surprise there was a maintaining the telecommunication protocol to which Internet is obliged by the name. Using Internet Protocol (IP), any quantity of separate computer networks is capable to unite in the general network working as a unit. The principles which are the cornerstone of IP are in many respects similar accepted in post services of the majority of the countries of the world. It is only enough to write on an envelope the correct address, to pay the post fee - and you can be sure (alas, to a certain degree): sooner or later your letter will reach the addressee.

At the same time it is not obligatory for you to know at all what way of its following and who specifically is responsible for delivery of your correspondence.
For management of access to databases and implementation of exchange of information in a network is required a full set of the Arpanet protocols, the most known of which is the combination of TCP/IP (Transmission Control Protcol/Internet Protocol).

Being tested in Arpanet, all these protocols found later application at universities and the research organizations from where then got to the sphere of commercial appendices as they are actively used in operating systems of many popular models of computers, for example, in workstations of the Sun Microsystems Inc company. It is enough to note that at the end of 80 - x of TCP/IP it was involved in millions of the computers united in thousands of networks. Merge of the last also generated Internet in its modern look.

Today Internet unites 48 thousand networks dispersed on all globe. Some of these subnets cover the whole geographical regions, in particular, North - Eastern States the USA. Others have especially local character and connect subscribers within this or that campus.
, perhaps, is difficult to find Today the person who would never hear about Internet.

It and is not surprising - all for some several years this global conglomerate of separate computer networks caught such number of consumers that by right it is considered nowadays the most considerable achievement of decade in the field of communication.
Is remarkable that so rapid development happens almost spontaneously, and sometimes and just happy-go-lucky. The system of the Internet networks has no owner and does not cope from the uniform center of any company or other organization, i.e. it represents unprecedented technical, social, and nowadays also a commercial phenomenon:

it is the ground opened for all for a running in of new information technologies on which scientists of all countries of the world, and now and managers can test the perspective ideas. Internet became the peculiar world forum allowing to combine efforts to ways to progress.
