The monument to the Soviet main engine of the FD series No. 20 - 2697, made in 1939 at Voroshilovgrad engine-building plant by it is on the station square of Kurgan. October revolution (former plant of Gustav Gartman).

After the beginning of the Great Patriotic War, despite prompt advance German - fascist troops far inland, the most part of FD engines managed to be evacuated to the Urals. And not only those that already worked at the most different railroads, but also still being in process of production. Four such engines arrived on the engine - repair plant in the Uhlan - Ude. Therefore the overwhelming part was made of all 3213 engines of the FD series constructed from 1931 for 1942 in Luhansk, and only these, four evacuated, are registered for the Uhlan - Udensky of the engine - repair.

It is natural that on the East of the train left under bombardments and firings. Therefore many of the evacuated locomotives, in a varying degree, needed under repair. Restored the damaged engines already in locomotive depots of South Ural and Siberia. And after restoration they were started in work.

FD was not just one of the most powerful serial Soviet engines. Among all main cargo locomotives it had the highest force of draft. Together with engines on the East also the defensive industry “left“. While the main consumer of its production (front) remained in the West, beyond the Urals.
