I promise or swear?

“I, (a surname, a name, a middle name), solemnly swear on fidelity to the Fatherland - the Russian Federation. I swear sacredly to observe the Constitution of the Russian Federation, to strictly fulfill requirements of all-army regulations, orders of commanders and chiefs... I Swear to

adequately to execute a military duty, to courageously protect freedom, independence and the constitutional system of Russia, the people and the Fatherland“.

The text of this military oath was approved by the Federal law of March 28, 1998 for for the first time called up for military service. In a festive atmosphere - in the presence of all military unit at National flag of the Russian Federation, the Battle flag of military unit and with an orchestra the text of the military oath prepared in advance on a special leaf with the State Emblem of the Russian Federation, personally signed by the serviceman is read aloud.

Then the commander of part congratulates the sworn soldiers and all part on replenishment. Further the National anthem of the Russian Federation is executed. In end of a ceremony - solemn march. Usually this day is considered the day off for all military unit.

The military oath is obligatory for each recruit on service in armed forces.

It is impossible to refuse adoption of the oath.

The law provided after adoption of the military oath certain rights, duties and responsibility for the recruit within the military legislation.

The civic chamber suggested to replace in the text of the military oath with the word “I promise“ the word “I swear“ about what was the special offer in the Ministry of Defence, the State Duma and Administration of the President of the Russian Federation is prepared.

The motive of change of the text is based, first of all, on religious views which forbid the believing person to swear in general, well and, of course, on national peculiarities of the military personnel who is voluntarily serving in ranks of valorous army. It concerns equally and those who take military service for a duty, and those who go to serve consciously. It turns out that about any oath out of the question.

Whether “promise“ to replace “oath“ will be able, having kept at the same time all morally - moral components of the obligation? And how it will be reflected in combat readiness of troops? It is difficult to predict.

If only words were compared with affairs and promises would be sincere. At us as it turns out - promises cost cheaper everything, come easily, and are executed hardly and a reluctance. Whether there is not enough conscience, whether memory comes to an end. What you will not tell about an oath. Swore and the life.

Broken an oath nearly on a fire burned in former - that times.

However as Reynal spoke: “When conscientiousness dominates, one word of honor suffices; and when it is absent - the oath is useless“.

Here if this obligation did not concern guarantees of safety of our Homeland, it would be possible to accept an innovation with pleasure. With an ulterior motive, probably, in military circles this news was apprehended in bayonets.
