Historians say that answers to all questions of the present need to be looked for in the past. Give, following advice of humanists, we will try to understand what is football hooliganism from where it undertook and who needs it.
History of football violence originates in the second half of the 20th century. For the first time from football fans began to write the English newspapers about aggression cases in the mid-sixties. Foggy Albion for long forty years will become the main arena of battles between admirers of various soccer teams, and from England this “the modern illness“ will extend worldwide. Arches Brimson, the English writer, in the past - the football hooligan, told once: “Football violence - as smoking. If you tried, and it was not pleasant to you, you will never do it for the second time. But if it was pleasant, then it will enter your life for a long time“. Probably, it was pleasant.
British managed, apparently, impossible - to turn usual “fight“ into the whole culture with the ideals, heroes and distinctive signs. While teams sorted out the relations in the field, fans fought with each other in the stands and streets. Uniting in so-called “firms“ (in fact - gangs), young people from the different cities were at war for own authority. Special style in clothes, so-called “casual“, and full refusal of use of attributes as scarfs and undershirts of flowers of a favorite team was a distinctive sign of belonging to group. It was not so simple to get to “firm“. Besides the age qualification there was also “ideological“ - devotion of this or that candidate to a favorite team, readiness to endow for the sake of it time, health and, perhaps, life was checked.
To the middle 80 - x years the wave of football violence overflowed England with the head. Quite often matches stopped from - for the fights arising in the stands sometimes flowing directly on a football field. Any of initiatives of the authorities, including serious prison terms for instigators of fights, was not crowned with success - fans continued to break public tranquility both in the territory of England, and beyond its limits, having broken several matches of a national team.
For journalists fans for a long time became a fallow information field, for the simple people attending matches of a favorite team on days off - the main fear, for the authorities - one of the directions of fight against crime. The psychologists studying the reasons of deviant behavior explained popularity of football violence with “desire of people to become part something big“. Really, in crowd identity of separately taken people who often did not manage to settle adequately in life was dissolved.
However development of technologies and their correct application allowed the authorities of England to bridle elements of football violence at the beginning of the 21st century. The system of pass on stadiums only according to the “card of the fan“ comprising a specification of the visitor of stadium - a name, a surname, age etc. was entered. In each case of violation of the rules of behavior at stadium an inspection during which, by means of surveillance cameras, were fixed both instigators, and simple rioters whom opportunities … deprived of visit of stadium for a period of one year and more subsequently was carried out. The police, at last, managed to find an Achilles` heel of any football hooligan. None of fans did not want to risk an opportunity to rejoice to victories of a favorite team, and stadiums of the United Kingdom learned pleasure of quiet contemplation of game again.
Perhaps, use of similar technology will allow to calm down also fans in Russia. At least, history prompts such way of fight against football violence.
Finishing, it would be desirable to remember words of the famous Russian football commentator Vasily Utkin: “You love soccer and take care“.
