And she was a founder of school of rhythmic gymnastics which in 50 - e safely could be considered years as the strongest not only in our country, but also around the world. Maria Lisitsian was born in Tiflis in 1908. Six years parents sent her to a children`s class of a piano at conservatory, and later - to a private gymnasium on Bebutovskaya of her uncle Stepan Lisitsian. There she studied elements of ballroom dances - since the childhood dreamed to be engaged in plastic art, so captivating at its age.

Maria with envy observed occupations studiyek, secretly visiting their lessons. Occupations of studio of a rhythm and the plasticity organized by her cousin Srbui Lisitsian - Azarapetyan, took place in the same place, in the building of a gymnasium. But Maria`s father, being afraid of excessive loadings, first did not let the daughter on occupations, but over time was given, and she was enlisted in younger group.

Remembering that time, Maria spoke: “Having big talent, Srbui Stepanovna managed to put work of studio, based on specifics of the expressive movement, its harmonious combination to music. All lessons were followed by a classical and folk music. It was very important to cultivate in the course of training in us understanding and taste to music, much attention was paid to improvisation lessons, a creative initiative of schoolgirls who thought out the movements, conformable to music“.

In 1921 the studio of a rhythm and plasticity was transformed to institute. By the time of its education the set of statements which with great pomp and solemnity went at Opera and ballet theater of Zachariah Paliashvili was prepared. Maria Lisitsian was an invariable participant of these reviews. Together with other starshekursnitsa it went by a tour to Baku, Leningrad, Yerevan, and in 1925, having graduated from institute, Maria Lisitsian began to act with national dances on variety platforms of Tiflis.

In 1929 she left Tiflis by the invitation of East ethnographic ensemble at the Leningrad platform directed by Martyn Semenovich Vardanyan. Then moved to Moscow, but continued to dance in Mosestrada. With origin of sound cinema Maria worked two years in “Mezhrabkomfilm“ on sound installation with the most famous directors of those years - Eggert and Fedorov.

The first theatrical experiences of Maria Lisitsian in Moscow began in 1933 in drama studio at Recreation center of the Armenian Soviet Socialist Republic. Ruben Simonov directed it. The studio rehearsed in the building of the former Lazarevskoye of institute in Armyansk the lane and prepared shots for the Armenian drama theater created in Moscow.

This course of skill in many respects helped it with work. The studio did of the pupils of versatile persons. Gabriela Sundukyana “The ruined center“ directed by R. N. Simonov she played a role of Salome comedies, and was at the same time a costumier. Unfortunately, the Armenian theater in Moscow was not created, and the majority of studiyets went to work to the cities of Armenia.

Maria became a trainer and brought together around herself children`s group of rhythmic gymnastics. In those days the rhythmic gymnastics was considered not as sport, but some kind of amateur performances. About 200 boys and girls trained at Maria Lisitsian. It could be happy with pupils - every year the young collective at city competitions was one of the first.

Maria was happy, she had everything: both family, and favourite work. But there came the thirty eighth year, her husband was declared “the enemy of the people“ and shot. She stayed “only“ two and a half years.

Leonid Karlik, her future husband, long ago in love with Maria, decided to address directly Lavrenti Beria and to try to rescue the girlfriend. A step, it is necessary to tell, for those times courageous and dangerous. Maria Lisitsian was brought to internal prison where there was one of Beria`s residences. Beria only asked: “Why you changed the surname for a surname of the husband?“ He remembered it across Tiflis where the balcony of GPU of Georgia came to the house of her grandfather. Maria came back home, and on May 27, 1941 she married Leonid Karlik.

Where only Maria Lisitsian had not to work after that. In 1943 she became the director of Children`s sports school in Zheleznodorozhny district of Moscow. After war it as the director - the director prepared marches of columns of school students on All-Union sports parade of 1945 at Red Square and on the following parades - at Dynamo stadium.

Here she together with the elder sister Tamara Lisitsian also created the school of rhythmic gymnastics which became to the strongest not only in the country, but also in the world. In the program of that time there were two any exercises: without subject and with a subject. On the sum of a double-event the Muscovite Lyudmila Savinkova won, and her compatriot Tatyana Kravchenko, Maria Lisitsian`s pupils got a silver medal. Competitions in Budapest are considered to be as the first official World Cup.

In 1966 for education of the first world champions in rhythmic gymnastics of Maria Lisitsian gave an honorary title “The honored trainer of the USSR“.

The third World Cup in rhythmic gymnastics was held in 1967 in Copenhagen where medal events and in team exercises were for the first time held. The sixteen-year-old debutant of world tournament Lena Karpukhina - “a miracle with bows“ as called Maria`s pupil became the all-around champion of the world.

Maria Lisitsian always sought to go the way in gymnastics, giving to pupils the vision of the world, trying to mold a perfect image of the sportswoman. She spoke: “The gymnast needs to be able to express the identity in the movement which is given rise by music … The movement of the sportswoman has to be deeply intelligent, respond on each musical phrase …“ Maria Lisitsian the Decree of Presidium of the Supreme Council of the USSR was awarded the order on July 24, 1968 by

For the public, teaching and sports work “Honour Sign“.

Working with members of a national team of the USSR on rhythmic gymnastics, she continued to train group of young gymnasts to whom she was also exacting. It was possible to envy its energy, kind talent, eternal search and love for the business which she tried to give to the schoolgirls.

On January 26, 1995 her generous heart ceased to fight.
