What for vegetable tomatofel?

On the Internet are available information that the first attempt on creation of intergeneric hybrids was carried out by G. Melkhers who in 1978 created a hybrid of potatoes and a tomato - tomatofel. The received hybrid was sterile and had the abnormal morphology expressed by a thickening of root system with lack of typical stolon and terry flowers.

All repeated attempts of receiving the required hybrid were unsuccessful and showed limitation, according to researchers, application of parasexual hybridization for applied selection. The plant received by practical consideration was sterile and did not give either seeds, or tubers, for the subsequent reproduction. The interspecific hybrid tomatofel was not a vegetable plant, and it is rather an illusion of hybridization.

Approximately in the same time or slightly earlier I also tried to grow up a similar hybrid at myself at the dacha, and the received plants had also no seeds and stolon, but I connected it with unsuccessfully chosen place for landing. In my opinion, morphological anomaly or sterility tomatofelya in this case is not the main reason for refusal of application of parasexual hybridization for selection of tomatoes.

... The beginning of history of cultivation tomatofelya leaves in 20 - e years of last century and is closely connected with Trophmme Denisovich Lysenko`s activity. Everything that is connected with his name, has the inconsistent and confused information now, to look for the truth in which is useless. Interests of two groups of the Russian geneticists which leaders were academicians N. I. Vavilov etc. of Lysenko faced in due time, and there was what left.

For me this scientific dispute ended with unexpectedly illogical way when my companion having doctor`s scientific degree reported that this scientific lawsuit is not of any interest to it. He considers that he remained live during war and in post-war time thanks to the fact that together with the grandfather sowed at itself in a kitchen garden the pyatikolosny wheat removed by the academician Lysenko which they also ate.

T. D. Lysenko, as well as many representatives of a scientific world of the Soviet period, made the scientific career promptly, having pressed the “intellectuals“ leading in science, not knowing any foreign language. In 13 years he learned to write and read, and having graduated from biennial school in 25 - summer age, it in 46 years already the academician of AN of USSR. Then the academician of VASHNIIL, the academician of Academy of Sciences of the USSR and further to the Minister of Agriculture.

The founder and the representative of Michurinsk agrobiology, it directed all the activity to fast receiving new hybrids of the plants capable to raise and yield a harvest in different climatic conditions without traditional selection and classical genetics. As opposed to which T. Lysenko developed the theory of a temperature and chemical mutagenesis, and then and the following theory of a morphogenesis.

Lysenko`s activity fell on the period when in the country everything was subordinated to interests of strengthening of economic and defensive potential. As the Minister of Agriculture it had to feed first of all people therefore some questions which at that time were not studied can be laid aside. Now even the method of development of a virgin soil is recognized as some inexpedient, expensive and wrong.

Experimental works on vegetative hybridization of plants were carried out on the subject “Transplantation (Inoculation) in Family of Solanaceous“ in parallel with the theory of Darwin about change in germinal cages without participation of men`s and women`s bodies. When the plant organism having evolutionary ability of selectivity itself chooses conditions necessary for it from surrounding external environment.

Numerous experiments showed that the heredity changes received as a result of hybridization are fixed not at once, and the received plants differ in the plastic nature. Michurin called it “loosened“ as all changes of heredity of a plant are caused by the changing living conditions and violations of a habitual metabolism.

Such plants with the “loosened“ nature instead of habitual heredity have a tendency to the choice of some certain changes of living conditions. But it is unknown whether the receiving task in experiment of cultural plants with dual technical purpose was set. As in a case with tomatofely when, apparently, it is possible to receive from one plant both a harvest of potatoes, and a harvest of tomatoes for one season.

When I checked this experience at myself at the dacha, doing a tomato inoculation on potatoes plant, drove out of ten skilled plants only two. It is good result which shows that experiments can be repeated, despite sterility of the received plants. According to Lysenko`s doctrine, change of norm and type of assimilation, norm and type of a metabolism is the reason of change of a live body.

In my opinion, the termination of experiments on removal of new productive grades of a tomato was influenced not by(with) sterility of the received plants, but other more significant reasons. When among the plants which grew from seeds of the imparted tomato not only vegetative hybrids were found. Also fruits of the tomato imparted on different stocks of plants of family solanaceous which contained stock signs were received.

Many plants contain toxic agents which can get to a skilled plant at selection. For example, such plant as potatoes, contains in all the elevated parts vegetable poison - solanin therefore it is not recommended to feed animals with a potato tops of vegetable. And in cases of an inoculation of plants of a tomato on potatoes developed by potatoes solanin can contain in fruits of the imparted tomato.

In turn, the plant of a tomato contains some substances, unnecessary for potatoes. Having received by practical consideration at selection solanaceous several negative results, the undesirable elements connected with transition from a stock to a scion, the subject was closed. And the name “ tomatofel “ remained in use as a peculiar reminder to rationalists about possible funny things in selection work.
