The sections Suomi - beauties: how it was?

Appear, the northern neighbor of Russia - Finland - several times in the history underwent partitions of the territory, language groups and even beliefs.

Having kept mentality during the difficult periods of tradition, Finns did not lose pride of the history, did not assimilate with neighbors and show a striking example of achievements and progress today.

Episodes of northern war of 1700-1721 in Finland are still called the “Great hostility“ which designated violent turn in the history of the country. “An era a velikoderzhaviya“, despite mobilization of soldiers and long war, nevertheless did not turn the most part of Finland into the arena of military operations throughout the XVII century, and it can be considered as a peculiar record for Europe of that time.

A wreath of almost eight-year period of presence of the Russian military contingent (Finns call this period occupation) was accession of the most part of Karelia and Vyborg to Russia in 1721. After war of 1741-1743 (“small contention“) one more area of Finland departed to Russia.

Since then the country of Suomi was de facto divided into the Russian and the Swedish Finland. And in “the Russian Finland“ quite noticeable influence (church, the legislation, traditions) was rendered by the Swedish element. In culture, education and economy the German style prevailed.

As a result of war in Europe of 1808-1809 the centuries-old political community of Finland and Sweden broke up. Under the terms of the world of 1809 in Fridrikskhaym, Finland became the autonomous Grand duchy under the Russian crown.

Later absolutely short time, in 1812, in the Grand duchy also other parts of Finland which departed to Russia earlier united. However when Finns received an autonomy, despite accession to Russia, Russian did not reach a dominant position in Finland. In administrative and educational spheres Swedish at that time predominated.

In Finland two official churches: Lutheran and orthodox. The bilingualism (the Finnish and Swedish languages) of Lutheran church is based on long tradition. Since reformation of the sermon were conducted in languages of local population - Finnish and Swedish. The Lutheran church consists of nine dioceses, one of which - Borgo - Swedish, is founded in 1923.

Falling of the Russian imperial power in 1917 gave to Finland the chance to be exempted from the Russian domination. Independence was found owing to tragic civil war where the line of the section passed respectively between socialist and bourgeois conviction, and both language groups were also politically divided by this ambit. Civil war came to the end with a victory of white, bourgeois forces.

The period of 1917-1923 was very important for formation of today`s Finnish society. Own education system and own diocese became the corner principles of a cultural autonomy. The guarantee of shvedskoyazychny army division in army of Finland (Nyulansky infantry brigade in Ekenes - unique where training of soldiers is carried out in Swedish) became one of features of this period of development of Finland.

Besides, the Aland Islands received the decision guaranteed by the international community concerning the status. Firm pillars on islands became self-government and Swedish monoyazychy. By the way, the Aland Islands - the demilitarized zone where the population in general is exempted from execution of a compulsory military service.

Since 1921 the Province Aland became self-governed as a part of Finland that granted to alandets the zakrpelenny right in the Constitution to establish the laws and to provide self-government in many spheres of life. The most important is an education and culture, health care and social protection, public service and means of communication (mass media, mail, radio and television), and also questions of economic development.

Pages of history of Finland, as well as any country, especially if it is about the small people, abound with tragedies and sufferings. Nevertheless, any of divisions - violent or voluntary - did not break the Finnish people, having only enriched it with experience of reforms and compromises.

Today Finland - quite prospering independent state which on many spheres (especially on a standard of living) advances Russia.

Here such interesting country borders on us from the North - the West.
