July 25: than this day in orthodox and national calendars is significant?
For July 25 in Eastern Orthodox liturgical calendar are necessary day of veneration of saints of martyrs Prokl and Ilari who were injured for belief. The first arrested Prokl. On interrogation at the governor Maxim it did not agree to refuse Christianity and was subjected to tortures. After that it was forced to run behind the chariot of the tyrant going home the martyr to the settlement Kalipt.
Being exhausted from the heavy road, Prokl prayed to God that that stopped the chariot for a respite and not only that it really happened, but also the governor remained motionless until upon the demand of the prisoner wrote with own hand a charter about Christ`s confession, and after that the chariot continued a way.
But it was only formal action, and therefore insincere. On arrival to the place of Prokl tortured again, and then it was ordered to bring him in the vicinity and to shoot from onions. Escorts persuaded the martyr to obey to keep life, but that was unshakable.
On the way to the place of execution there was a meeting with Saint Prokl`s nephew Ilari who embraced the uncle with tears and admitted that he is a Christian, was detained and after execution of the death sentence is flung in prison and will subject to tortures. Ilari who kept hardness in belief was also sentenced to death, he was dragged through all city on the ground, and then beheaded.
In national calendar date is also connected on July 25 with a name of Prokl, but also and with the economic cares based on phenological signs. And therefore day is called Prokl Plakalshchik, Prokl Great Dews.
If for a minute to distract from the Russian subject, then it is possible to remember that in antique mythology dew is a daughter of the Moon, she as if was born from Selena and Zeus`s union, and therefore had magic force.
In later times she became a virginity symbol. At rusichy dew was perceived in the form of a wonderful image of a semi-bird - the semi-maiden who nestles close to the earth in melancholy for mortal life. About dew developed were, sayings, riddles. For example:
Mater Marya went across the field,
dropped Keys, and the sun took.
In the evening on the earth flies,
on the earth stays Night,
departs in the Morning again. were considered as Proklova`s
of dew as curative. They were brought together at dawn, having spread linen cloths which then wrung out over a clay krinka on a grass.
In last times dew was applied at an inflammation of eyes, at skin diseases and itch. To relieve of dizziness, it was allowed to involve to the patient through a nose, and collected from leaves of fennel or a chistotel used for a sharpening of sight. Besides, was considered that this dew washes away damage and a malefice: “Proklova great dews - the best means from a malefice and from a prizor“ .
Among women of all social groups there was a belief that washing by dew, especially collected under an oak, well influences complexion, gives beauty (and trusted in it not only in Russia, but also in France, Italy, Spain).
As for economic cares, the most important was to Prokl to dry up and harvest hay because plentiful dews were called senognoyny. But for a harvest they admitted good and if “On Proklo blotted the field from dew“ , then to it they rejoiced and said that “dew that - in use, on health, on a good news about the ripening bread“. can call
From weather supervision the following:
- Is not present at the night of dew neither on a meadow, nor in lowlands - to a bad weather;
- Strong dew and fog foretell the dry and hot rest of summer next morning;
- Emergence of yellow leaves on trees foretells early fall.
