Tamerlan`s tower. What secret it keeps?

When terrible Timur`s anger ceased, he on the place of death of the daughter enjoined to build the mausoleum, such that there were centuries.

In those days as the strongest considered bricks which kneaded on camel or goat milk, red clay and eggs of steppe birds. Assume that made and burned them near Uy River near modern Troitsk. And here is how bricks delivered to the place? Distance on a straight line - of 150 kilometers .

And then Tamerlan to the army on a chain ordered to be built. Also this human chain through the steppe and coppices was stretched. Soldiers handed over a brick behind a brick until all to the last brick did not deliver to the place of future tower.

Other legend says that Tamerlan`s daughter and her husband, traveling around the steppe, were torn to pieces by the tigers living then in those regions and on the place of their death the tomb was constructed.

On the third legend, Timur in a campaign was accompanied by a harem. One of his favourite concubines ran away with the soldier. When fugitives were overtaken, the soldier was cut, and the girl hit herself with a dagger in a breast and forever remained with it a row. Soldiers of Tamerlan constructed a tower on the place of their death.

of the Version of scientists

But these legends go only among local population. Scientists claim that Timur`s army was not here - it passed to the south. These places were studied by the historian and the traveler Rychkov, the ethnographer Ignatyev, professor Petri, the academician Pallas, the archeologist I. A. Kastanye. And none of them mentioned legends.

The scientist Rychkov was the first who described the mausoleum. It put forward the version about an unknown civilization which existed in South Ural and left behind several similar constructions from a brick. This tower was built over a grave “ of the Saint tsar “ these people … the ethnographer Ignatyev wrote down

In hundred years after Rychkov that Kyrgyz are nomads and pagans esteem her as the temple of unknown belief and the mausoleum over ashes of “the Saint tsar“.

In 1889 professor E. Yu. Petri in a tower made excavation of a crypt. He found burial of the young woman (buried in the popular print blocked by boards). On it there were remains of a silk scarf, two gold rings with arabesques and two earrings in the form of a question mark. Similar earrings occurred among ancient jewelry of nomads and the forest-steppe population. Assumed that in the mausoleum there was a woman from the Turkic nobility. In those places during an era of the Middle Ages there lived nomad tribes the Kyrgyz - kaysakh (so before called Kazakhs). It is possible when at one of notable Kazakhs the daughter died, he built the mausoleum over her grave.

On the basis of the found jewelry and the weapon researchers of a monument date back to its 14th century. This type of “tent“ mausoleums meets in architecture of Khwarezm and Khurasan. On found Irka`s mausoleums - the woman (Turkmenistan), Madzhara (North Caucasus), Bendebike (Bashkortostan) are the most similar.

But the riddle of a tower of Tamerlan is that in these parts such structures are unknown though rather nearby, in Kazakhstan, there is a monument Abat - Baytak reminding the mausoleum in vicinities of Varna.

Secrets around Tamerlan`s tower remain. However absolutely precisely that the structure in the steppe - really bright architectural monument of the 14th century also is the woman`s tomb from a noble family. But who is she actually and who constructed a tower - is unknown.

Nevertheless the tale of Tamerlan`s daughter is closer to me. I found the card of its campaigns on the territory of Russia. Timur was with the army even to the north, in the Bashkir lands. And one of historically designated routes passed in only several hundred kilometers to the south of Tamerlan`s tower. It is the known campaign of Timur on Tokhtamysh in 1391 which way lay across territories of modern Kazakhstan and the Urals to Volga. If to consider that fugitives left aside, the return from the movement of group of Tamerlan, and for horses several honeycombs of kilometers are not very long distance, then everything very much is even probable …

the Renaissance to Kesena

at the beginning of 80 - x years of the last century the half-ruined building of the mausoleum was restored. Old bricks laid over new which prepared and burned on ancient technology, only without camel milk. During restoration found out that the base of a tower goes to the earth on three meters. Initially thickness of its walls made two meters. In it one of secrets of longevity towers. Restoration came to the end in 1985. The monument both was given the name “ Mausoleum to Kesena “ and gave the status of republican.

Today the complex to Kesena consists of the brick mausoleum 17 meters high, six barrows of an era of bronze, a barrow of the early Iron Age and 150 barrows of the late Middle Ages. During restoration around a tower found 700 more graves. Scientists claim that it is an ancient necropolis of the early Iron Age, and Tamerlan`s tower is constructed here later.

There is a mausoleum on the peninsula in the middle of a bog which was the lake Big to Kesena earlier, and it is possible to drive up to it only on the dirt road departing from the route.

To a tower the footpath paved by stones conducts. On an entrance - an openwork lattice. Inside - one big room with a stone floor and small windows. In silence only hum of bees and a cooing of pigeons who lodge under the high arch is heard. Wind touches the multi-colored ribbons left by visitors on iron rods of a door. Flight of time is slowed down here.

Locals believe that Tamerlan`s tower has vivifying force. The person as if “plunges into time“ and rejuvenates. The mausoleum is open for free visit. The authorities of the village of Varna watch safety of the mausoleum, but they cannot save it from tourists who think that if to write the name on a wall, then life will be happy.

Still the mausoleum to Kesena became the real place of pilgrimage of lovers . There come newlyweds - they trust in a legend of Kesen and Mengirey, of love which was not destroyed even by death.

Centuries rushed. The step of time is fast,

But a tower costs in those places still,

As memory of the shed young blood,

As a symbol of their right and eternal love!
