Anna Dostoyevskaya. Wife, psychologist or talented litagent?

Anna Grigoryevna Dostoyevskaya (nee Snitkina) (1846 - 1918) - the second wife of F. M. Dostoyevsky. She got acquainted with the writer in one of the most drama periods of his life. Prosecution of creditors, need, game in a roulette, obligations to a family of the died brother... And to all this melancholy, loneliness, the become frequent epilepsy attacks. All this forced Dostoyevsky to sign enslaving contracts for writing of two novels at once - “Player“ and the “Crime and punishment “.

And among this gloom there is a ray of sunlight, a gift, the advantageous ticket - it is possible to speak somehow about emergence before twenty-year-old Anna Snitkina`s writer.

Who is she? Kind angel, adherent, assistant, keeper of the center? I think, everything, combined.

Anna heard a name of Dostoyevsky in sixteen years. It found at the father of “A note from the Dead house“ (Snitkin G. I. - poor nobleman, petty official, great admirer of literature). Read, cried and blazed with desire to reorganize the world. But how? Having a little thought, Anna decided to become a teacher. To bear knowledge, to heal young souls, to install in them belief in the happy future … - what can be more noble?

Fall of 1864 Anna arrived on office of a physical mat of Pedagogical courses. Studied year and … left. The reason serious - the father died, and Anna was forced to earn for the maintenance of a family. Having ended courses of stenographers, she became the best schoolgirl of professor Olkhin whom Dostoyevsky addressed.

Acquaintance took place on October 4, 1866 Anna Snitkina came to Alonkin`s house where there lived Dostoyevsky, rose to the apartment No. 13 and, after a while, saw the famous writer.

“At first sight it seemed to me quite old. But only started talking, now became younger, and I thought that to it hardly more than thirty five - seven years. Light-a nutbrown hair was strongly pomaded and carefully smoothed. But what me struck, so it is his eyes: they were different, one - brown, in another the pupil is expanded in all eye and raduzhina imperceptibly. This duality of a look gave to Dostoyevsky`s look some mysterious expression“ .

Several days of collaboration and … unexpected conversation. Or rather, not conversation, and real confession. “His story made terrible impression on me , - Anna Grigoryevna wrote later. - This by the form the reserved and severe person told me all last life with such details, so sincerely and cordially that I involuntarily was surprised“ .

Why Dostoyevsky opened the heart? The stenographer was pleasant? Or felt relationship of souls? I think, both the first, and the second. I remember unforgettable Georgy Ivanovich Smirnov`s words - directors of Dostoevsky Museum in Staraya Russa. Having spoken with it three evenings, I understood: Dostoyevsky thought intuitively. And partly fitfully.

So, having told about itself, Dostoyevsky built the bridge and gave to Anna Snitkina a hand. Probably, felt a kindred spirit. And he did not miscalculate. It was the prize which gave big dividends. Being on one wave, Anna and Dostoyevsky in 26 days wrote the novel “Player“ and satisfied terms of the contract - incredibly rigid, it is possible to tell - enslaving. And then - the offer of a hand and heart.

According to Anna Grigoryevna, at this moment Dostoyevsky very much worried. Being afraid to be refused, he started talking about the artist - the fictional character of the novel. “Present that this artist - I that I made a declaration of love to you and asked to be my wife. Tell that you would answer me“, - Fyodor Mikhaylovich asked. Also heard: “I would answer you that I love you and I will love all life“.

Anna Grigoryevna did not palter and kept the word. She loved Dostoyevsky for the rest of the natural and died with thought of it.

Wedding took place on February 15, 1867 in Izmaylovsky Trinity Cathedral of St. Petersburg, and after it - a “black“ honeymoon. Dostoyevsky`s relatives behaved as a bee swarm. They stung the young wife, buzzed over the writer`s ear, asked, were indignant, cried. The fear to lose a monetary allowance directed them. Dostoyevsky was nervous, quarreled, worried. It seems, to resist it is useless - ahead an inevitable gap.

But Anna Grigoryevna went va - bank. She sold the jewelry and took away Dostoyevsky to Germany. Secretly, without having told anybody words - for three months. However there lasted money for four years. And here again Anna Grigoryevna`s merit. The most strict economy, calculation, behind them - an ultimate goal: to give to Dostoyevsky an opportunity to work quietly. Also there occurred happiness. For both. Between spouses nobody stood, everyone went about the own business.

Anna Grigoryevna won a victory behind a victory. One of them was very important - Dostoyevsky threw a roulette.

“It is necessary to me the great cause came true , - Dostoyevsky wrote. - The mean imagination tormenting me nearly ten years disappeared. I dreamed to win everything: dreamed seriously, passionately … Now everything is finished! All life I will remember it and every time you, my angel to bless “.

Anna Grigoryevna gave birth to Dostoyevsky to four children. The first - Sonechka - died in infancy, in 1868 in Dresden Lyubov, in 1871 - Fyodor, in 1875 - Alexey appeared (died of epilepsy at the age of three years subsequently). Thanks to the wife Dostoyevsky paid off with debts and bought a two-storeyed mansion in Staraya Russa (the only property of Dostoyevsky).

The world and love, the provincial silence distributed on hours life. Dostoyevsky worked at night and got up at 11 o`clock in the morning. Late breakfast, communication with children, walk, lunch, collaboration. Fyodor Mikhaylovich dictated, Anna Grigoryevna wrote down.

By the way, Anna Dostoyevskaya quite successfully was engaged in the edition and distribution of books of the husband. Having studied publishing subtleties, she sold Dostoyevsky`s books (some printed at own expense). So, for example, all circulation of the novel “Demons“ was sold in a month, and he lay at home, and in announcements which Anna Grigoryevna gave, the home address was specified.

On January 28, 1881 Dostoyevsky died, and life for Anna Grigoryevna stopped. According to her daughter, A. G. Dostoyevskaya “remained in 70 - x years of the nineteenth century“. She continued to be engaged in heritage of the husband, however communicated only with those who loved and knew Dostoyevsky.
