Why to a cow of a horn?

, Why to a cow, pancake, horns?

What`s the use, pancake, from its rozhek? to it horns not the pomoga,

When it conduct

under a knife.

(Poet Romuald Neshutochny, Moscow).

All know (at least, saw on pictures) that each cow has not only an udder (for milk yield of milk), but also horns. Well, with an udder everything is clear. And horns what for? we Will tell, they are necessary to a bull to fight with other bull for a female (well, or to butt the cattleman that did not stir it bull affairs). And a cow - that what for?

Is interesting that butting cows milk more. Perhaps, they drive away from the most tasty forages of other cows? But milkmaids prefer everything - to milk quiet cows. To domestic cows, especially on stall contents, horns are not necessary at all (for anything) therefore they in many countries to cow calves of a horn delete, is more often in infancy. And therefore, in particular, in the USA, cows are represented without horns everywhere (at the same time and bulls too).

By the way, about Americans. They released the animated movie “Barn Yard“ (Russia shows it under the name “Horns and Hoofs“). And so, a bull there without horns, but with an udder. Generally, such a cow - the man. Poll of the audience was made, and it turned out that only one woman knew that male cows are not and that all cows have horns. And this woman appeared the Russian!

Generally, calfs of both sexes are born without horns, but at once with teeth. In a month on the head of a calf small hillocks appear. At two-month age at calfs it is possible not only to grope, but also to see personally small horns. To domestic cows of a horn to anything: from them one troubles. Therefore veterinarians around the world (except Russia, but sometimes and in Russia) help calfs to get rid of horns at early age. At the same time it is not obligatory to cauterize or saw horns at all. There are means more humane.

It is curious that horns grow not only at bull-calves, but also at cow calves. It is asked, cow calves what for? For ancient people of a horn of artiodactyl animals were a symbol of man`s fighting spirit, courageous force, fertility, prosperity and fertility. And Vikings carried horned helmets for intimidation of the opponent and success in fight. The most ancient musical instruments were made of horns. In particular, they served for giving of a signal to fight or hunting. Alexander of Macedon after a gain of Egypt and appointment as the Pharaoh was declared the son of god Amon and was represented on coins with mutton horns why it was nicknamed by two-horned. In the Judaic Temple on four parties of an altar there were sacred horns on which blood of sacrificial animals flew down. These horns were a symbol of the comprehensive power of the one God. The person who ran in to the temple and concerned one of these horns was considered as an inviolable and was not subject to secular court and punishment as he betrayed himself to God`s court.

But not for the sake of use in religious cults cows had horns? It is necessary to tell that in the western countries often allocate considerable funds for studying of similar questions. For example, in 2009 the group of the Swedish scientists received, in terms of US dollars, 590 thousand dollars on studying of a cow eructation. The English scientists did not lag behind them also. They carried out the comparative analysis of 117 species of artiodactyl animals, including also cattle. As a result of the scientific analysis they came to a conclusion that horns occur at females (cows, buffalo cows, etc.) those types which the big sizes have are noticeable from far away, especially at those which live on open spaces and can easily fall prey of predators (similar examples weight in telecasts of the English TV company of Bee - bi - SI). Horns are necessary to them for protection against predators. Much less often artiodactyl animals use horns for protection of places of the continuous dwelling against other individuals of the look, but it is characteristic only of small animals.

In national fairy tales very often horns of cows are used to tie to them a rope, and then to conduct a cow somewhere or to tie to a stall to milk. Therefore I make own hypothesis: ancient cattle-farmers - selectors specially removed breed of horned cows that was to what to bind a rope (agree that to tie a cow a rope for a neck - inhumanely) and to force then to do that ancient people needed - to pull a plow, to give milk, to carry them astride etc.

And who does not believe that they rode cows that I testify: I saw the Kyrgyz astride a cow (on a cow, but not on a bull-calf). And it can be explained: bulls can be tamed only in case to deprive of them man`s advantage, that is to castrate. But it will already be not bulls, but oxen. My hypothesis - comic, but who knows?.
