In honor of what monument the medal was made? Whether

are Known by you that a monument have awards? The well-known monument has them and Bronze Horseman (1766 - 1782), Etienne Maurice Falcone`s works. Its creation not just immortalizes memory of the tsar - the reformer, but also is a symbol of the 18th century, an era of great transformations.

Each detail of composition has the interesting story. So, the figure of the rider was created in two stages. In the beginning Falcone executed its naked. It allowed the sculptor to transfer more precisely the most expressive movements of the emperor, it is correct to represent a human figure. And only when the image was found, a statue began to dress .

Falcone chose the general, timeless character of a suit in which lines of the Russian and antique attire merged. Such dress is not evident, it does not distract from the main idea of a monument.

Also Pyotr`s head is fine. Falcone long could not find the necessary image, and then the sculptor was come to the rescue by his faithful schoolgirl Mari Anne Collo. She created the emperor`s portrait literally for one night. The portrait turned out very successful, and Falcone used it in work, having declared Collo the coauthor. However the sculptor not mechanically copied work of the assistant. He gave to a portrait big generality, laconicism, subordinated him to the general plan, having kept at the same time the poetry and expressiveness which is so successfully found Mari.

Important part of a monument is the horse. Falcone ordered to construct near the workshop a scaffold with the same inclination, as a pedestal of future monument. The best riders repeatedly jumped on it, lifting a horse on racks. The sculptor attentively watched behavior of an animal that helped it to give to a horse naturalness and dynamism, to show his free uncontrollable rush. It seems that before us Russia which Pyotr also promptly brought to a new stage of development.

However the huge statue sticking to everything on two support could be unstable. And then Falcone found the surprising solution, having placed a snake by legs of a horse. A tail of an animal slightly as if incidentally concerns this figure, forming thereby third point of support. But the audience practically does not notice it. For them a dragon - first of all a symbol of the evil, prejudices against which Peter I fought, carrying out the grandiose reforms. And soon after a dragon it began to be perceived differently as allegory of the human victims at the expense of which Petrovsky transformations were carried out.

A separate subject - a pedestal. The necessary stone was found by the peasant Semyon Grigoryevich Vishnyakov in 12 versts (12, 71 km) from St. Petersburg. Its transportation demanded many efforts and technically courageous decisions.

For movement were by land two parallel trenches through which at a certain distance bronze spheres were passed are prepared. In turn they became covered by the second trenches on which the lattice with a stone went mad. It was given in the movement by means of two, and sometimes by more collars (ropes), each of which was pulled by 32 persons. So the stone moved 4 months.

Further its way lay through the Gulf of Finland, across Neva. The special ship was for this purpose constructed. It had no sails (in motion it was set

by the additional, put to it vessels), and length was several times more than width. To facilitate loading, the vessel was flooded, gate dragged on it a stone, and then, having pumped out water, brought the ship to a steady state.

This difficult transportation, a monument struck contemporaries. Not without reason in her honor the medal with a proud inscription was cast: To Plainness it is similar .
