Strange piece human psychology. People trust not direct statements, but some rumors, opinion of crowd, the voice of the people more often. The people start buying up sugar, despite all assurances of the government that with it everything is all right, walks smack in any doubtful trusts, hoping to be enriched fantastically. Even the most thorough pessimists hope for the best, for some miracle.

So the situation with many notorious biologically active food additives is. In an emphasis say to people that Herbalife - not medicine, and the people all the same buys - suddenly will help. With genetically modified products the effect works exactly the opposite: scientists claim that such products cannot damage, and the people on the quiet think: suddenly will do much harm .

Competent people say that without transgene food we are waited by world hunger, others, not less competent, but in another, shout that we let out the genie from a bottle. Also it is in most cases useless to appeal to reason and to convince at the level of common sense that transgene products are harmless to health, and even it is more useful usual - here conversation goes in categories of belief or disbelief.

Scope of gene experiments we eat with

A transgene vegetables for a long time. But not always we know about it. Abroad genetically modified vegetables and commercial crops occupy tens if not hundreds of millions hectares. They yield the raised harvest, are steady against wreckers and diseases. So, the harvest of genetically modified potatoes, for example, reaches 400 centners from hectare that four times exceeds productivity of usual Russian potatoes.

The main advantage of transgene potato is that it is not eaten by the Colorado beetle. When you meet what loss it causes to our potatoes, the known expression involuntarily occurs: we eat scraps from a table of insects.

And so, having tried leaves of potatoes in which molecules DNA genes from Bacillus thuringiensis bacterium are imparted, the Colorado beetle already more than nothing is will not become. The built-in gene makes protein, fatally poisonous for an insect, but absolutely neutral in relation to warm-blooded animals, including the person. Its safety carefully is also repeatedly checked.

But there is more to come. Achievements of genetic engineering allowed to develop a grade of potatoes of which technologically simpler and cheaper to do chips, and also potatoes with the improved composition of fatty acids and the increased content of vitamins.

But potatoes are only the beginning. Promising were experiences over the immediate family of potatoes - tomatoes. Also build in the genes which are responsible for production of toxic agents, naturally, their genetic structure selectively acting on wreckers and harmless to the person. One of the genes entered into tomato DNA impacts that relish and a smell just broken from a bed, despite quite long period of storage.

In the same way build in the genes protecting them from insects DNA of corn and rice - wreckers. As a result it is not necessary to pollinate crops by toxic chemicals, that is, eventually, the food from such genetically modified plants becomes ecologically purer than usual.

And it is not simple to satisfy curiosity of scientists. It is vital. To 40% of a harvest of potatoes perishes annually from fungal diseases of tubers and from the Colorado beetle. Losses are expressed in tens of billions even not of rubles, but dollars.

And here, in three most widespread grades of potatoes occupying up to 50% of the landing spaces in the country - Lugovskoy Nevsky and Elizabeth - the gene killing the Colorado beetle is entered. They were landed on experimental, for the present closed the research field, near landing of the usual tubers which did not undergo gene intervention. Scientists will carefully investigate consequences of experiments, without allowing uncontrolled distribution of the modified potatoes. Also sugar beet which 30% perish on our fields is not forgotten, doing economically unprofitable production of domestic sugar.
