Tutankhamun: the greatest opening or falsification of a century? Part 2
So, in 1922 the archeologist Howard Carter found a tomb of the Egyptian Pharaoh Tutankhamun under quite strange circumstances … So by what image this confused action could be also for what purpose carried out? However, the purpose appears easily: glory and money.
In general it turns out that Carter opened the Pharaoh Tutankhamun and entered him into history. Because only several seals with such name, even without indication of an imperial title up to this point were revealed. Perhaps, it was just notable person, many scientists then considered that the Pharaoh with such name in Egypt did not exist. And by the time of the beginning of excavation of Carter all Valley of the Kings was already very carefully studied by numerous teams of archeologists, all were absolutely sure that here it is impossible to find something significant more. Therefore Carter had to know at that time that he will not make great discoveries here.
Perhaps, having begun researches, in 1917 he found some modest burial of the notable Egyptian, can even be already devastated by the previous diggers. And who knows, maybe, then - that and the crazy thought came to mind of the enterprising Englishman to turn this tomb into a magnificent tomb of the Pharaoh. Those years history of Ancient Egypt was rather well studied, there were only a few temporary intervals for which names of Pharaohs remained unknown. There - that Carter also attached not existing Pharaoh Tutankhamun. And not to cause excess suspicions, it was declared that it reigned absolutely not for long and became famous for nothing.
Of course to turn such business, considerable money was necessary. And then Carter understood what the best sponsor, than the government of Egypt, to it not to find. It got huge profit on tourists, already then in large quantities visiting the country, and sales of historical values. And, did not differ in special scrupulousness of the power: quite often the exhibits sold to the world museums were a fake. And Carter, thanks to the opening, became the first Egyptologist in the world. Probably, this impudent plan was pleasant to officials, and money was allocated. Here then becomes clear why excavation continued the whole five years: all this time the narrow circle of people prepared modest burial for great opening …
From various underground handicraftsmen who were specialists in fakes in style of Ancient Egypt ordered necessary household items, sarcophagi and bas-reliefs with history of reign of the Pharaoh. The mummy was just bought, and its deplorable state not characteristic of other imperial mummies is explained by this. To fall of 1922. burial was loaded by necessary treasures, and Carter transferred the people to this site which is already investigated by it five years ago. And, certainly, quickly found untouched burial. This fact indirectly is confirmed by the fact that by this time as a part of expedition there is no nobody left who would know about excavation of this place in 1917. Except for the lord of Caernarfon who initially sponsored Carter`s researches and was in Egypt arrivals.
All participants of excavation were very much surprised that in a tomb traces of ancient robbers were obviously visible, but nothing was taken out. And these strange passes punched near doors in thick walls could not be explained at all: it was simpler to punch thinner door. Analyzing this fact, K. Smirnov draws a conclusion that it was made only in those places where, destroying a door, it was possible to damage the objects which are behind it at a short distance. That is, the one who imitated thus penetration into a tomb well knew where that he lies there. Moreover, there is an assumption that the narrow-gage railway was used for delivery of pseudo-finds to the place of excavation and back. And, was considered that there carry just empty container. But as a result from this burial drew such number of values which could hardly go in on that square.
There is an explanation and to the sawn chariots: they could not pass in a door therefore were sawn by workers by means of saws, but not so ancient Egyptians. Traces of modern tools are noticeable also on a sarcophagus which was collected, seemingly, directly on the place. In many places round prints of machinist hammers which were applied better to adjust sarcophagus fragments are visible.
The question arises: really none of the skilled archeologists who were repeatedly researching suspected grandiose falsification? Of course, some scientists paid attention to strangenesses of this excavation, also the lord Caernarfon pricked up the ears, knowing that in 1917 on this place Carter found nothing. And here we approached one more secret: “ to the Pharaoh`s damnation “ …
