This day in all houses where there are girls, parade the dolls which are dressed up in a traditional kimono. This exhibition lasts the whole month. Dolls are usually made of very expensive materials and pass by inheritance from father to son, and are also a dowry of the young girl.
On May 5 noted as Day of boys earlier. On roofs of all houses this day the pole with the image of a carp is put. The quantity of carps depends on number of boys in a family, and the size - on their age. The carp in Japan is a symbol of bravery, firmness and valor. This day as well as in Day of girls, the exhibition of dolls, but not imperial beauties, but valorous soldiers and their arms is held.

In days of celebration the Festival of kites is held. All boys and men fly a kite in the sky. Images on them the most different. Someone draws images of evil spirits, and, releasing a snake, sacredly believes that all adversities in the future pass them. Others draw turtles and cranes who are a longevity symbol, in hope to live long happy life. And boys generally represent a carp and write the name, wishing to succeed in the future.
Celebrating this holiday, houses decorate, children are given gifts and all each other treat with traditional Japanese dishes with rice which are a symbol of longevity and health, and also on giving avert evil spirits. In the afternoon in parks carry out sports meets for boys where they can show skill and show sports preparation. And in the evening the ritual ceremony of gratitude for health of children is made.
