Mercedes Glyaytse was the first woman who crossed La - Mansh. Its act was accepted by the public ambiguously - many considered that it made it not honestly. To dispel all doubts, the woman decided to repeat the feat.
Naturally, Wilsdorf could not miss such opportunity. It was the chance not only to declare uniqueness of hours, but also to confirm in practice their accuracy and quality. The Rolex company presented to Ms. Glyaytse the Rolex Oyster model, but there was one small condition - Mercedes should not have removed hours when she crosses La - Mansh. Mercedes Glyaytse agreed. All event later - property of history and result of unique strategic policy of the Rolex company. Rolex Oyster got grandiose popularity. And Rolex decided to expand a little philosophy and began to give support to extreme sports. What was promoted in many respects by interest of the public in adventures and extreme researches which peak fell on the middle of the 20th century. Names of pioneers and subjugators of tops and depths rattled worldwide, and on their hands brand new Rolex flaunted.
