Pictures oil: how it becomes? Preparation of a canvas of

Literally couple of days ago on Our Radio the leader asked a question to listeners: What do you dream to learn? Answers from the blog she read the most various one of them was - I Want to learn to paint in " oils;. Oil painting is widespread

, and many famous artists painted the works in oils. Of course, it is impossible to learn to work with oil paints in one day, it is diligent and laborious work. But the result will not keep itself waiting.

I will give several practical advice to the beginning artists how to paint in oils.

We will begin with preparation of a canvas .

Oil painting is based on use of vegetable oil as the main binding substance. Material on which work is performed is called the basis. It is the best of all to paint in oils on a canvas. It has to spring pleasantly under a brush, allowing to put expressive dabs, to write vigorously. The canvas has to be linen or hempen. As shows experience, cotton, viscose and other fabrics are unsuitable.

The granular invoice of a canvas is very convenient for painting. For studies it is necessary to choose a canvas with threads of average thickness, and for big pictures - coarse-grained. Some artists prefer to take a sacking for the basis. But on it it is better to paint large-format etudes and pictures as it has the expressed relief invoice. It is necessary to choose not really rarefied sacking, without blots and washed.

It is good to have a small stock of different types of a canvas that from the very beginning painting classes to study possibilities of each material.

There now, the canvas is acquired. Now it is necessary to take care of stretcher .

the Main purpose of a stretcher - to keep a canvas in the tense state. The canvas shows the properties only when it is correctly tense, is not jarred on, does not lose elasticity in operating time.

The canvas is pulled on the stretchers made with the bevel directed in a stretcher at an angle of 5 - 7 degrees. Otherwise the canvas is deformed, and the layer of the applied paint bursts over time. If the stretcher has no bevels, then glue and soil can get on the canvas back that cannot be allowed.

When paints will dry, ready work can be removed, and on the released stretcher to pull the basis again.

The following stage - gluing of a canvas .

For painting prepare well tense canvas. Gluing closes all time of a canvas - in - the first to protect it from harmful effects of oil, and in - the second that layers of earth and paints did not get on seamy side.

For gluing prepare liquid joiner`s glue in advance and cool it. Jellylike glue solution it is easier to close a time. Such solution is applied with a wide brush or a brush on a canvas. It is important that a time was closed, and threads were covered with the thinnest layer.

After gluing the canvas should be dried at the usual room temperature in well aired room. Then its surface on which some thickenings of threads after gluing bugritsya should be wiped with a piece of pumice. It is necessary to grind easily, carefully not to damage the granular invoice. Having blown off powder of the pumice which remained between threads it is possible to make repeated gluing.

So if all time of a canvas is closed, its invoice is kept, the glue layer at a bend does not burst, it is possible to consider gluing successful.

Having checked quality of gluing, pass to primer .

Soil is a link between a canvas and paints, it is impossible to write on not primed canvas with oil paints. If soil is prepared badly, on it it is difficult to write with a brush - paints will grow dull, in a picture opaque spots will appear. It is important that soil was white, without strips and spots.

Recipes and types of soil exists much: emulsion, semi-oil, oil. The knowledge of all properties of different types of soil is acquired with practice. Recommend to try different ways of a primer of a canvas at a grade level of painting.

Of course, a canvas - the best basis under painting by oil. But also use of other materials - a cardboard, paper (Whatman paper), and even glasses and plywood is admissible.
