What does Holland attract tourists with? Charming provincial towns on channels. Part 2

it is convenient and easy to Travel around Holland. The mass of bus routes, and the trains InterCity, the remote analog of our electric trains, depart from the station of Amsterdam in 15 - 20 minutes. There is a mass of options of acquisition of tickets, including by the principle of Rail Idee (all inclusive) allowing not only to reach to the right place, but also to visit there the museums and sights, buying tickets with considerable discounts.

Perhaps, one of the most original towns of Holland where with pleasure there go tourists, remain Marken who settled down on the small island to the north of Amsterdam. To the continent the island is connected by the long narrow dam constructed in 1957, it it is well visible from air when you fly up to Amsterdam by plane. Long island isolation affected architecture and suits of inhabitants of Marken. The houses extended along port are stocky and constrained on color, without small gardens, traditional for the country, with flowers, the sea and strong winds do not allow to be engaged especially in floriculture, except, as in the depth of an island.

Here and in usual days it is possible to see inhabitants in beautiful national suits, it is not connected with travel business. If you get on the island to a holiday or to the day off when inhabitants visit service in Lutheran church, in such suits there will be practically all. Especially colourfully wedding ceremonies when in national suits both newlyweds, and all guests are dressed look. Unfortunately, weddings happen not often here, on the island there live only about 2 thousand people.

The main sights are the town which is cut through by several narrow channels, port, the small museum and Lutheran church. The museum is not rich, but is interesting, represents history of the island and helps to understand features of a local suit. With a public catering in the town not really, in cafe cook well, but high prices. And here souvenirs are much cheaper, than in Amsterdam though their choice practically same. In the town not only sell, but also do traditional Dutch wooden boots. It is possible to get an original souvenir, as they say, from the producer.

The way to Marken and can be done on a dam by bus back, but it is better to use this transport only in one party. There is a regular sea line, convenient for tourists, Marken - Volendam, only 30 minutes by trip motor ship which if I am not mistaken, depart from the coast each 45 minutes in the afternoon.

Volendam quite large coastal town which grew from the fishing village. Sights are traditional, but the local museum devoted to fishery and port in which there are always many vessels is curious. In the city well prepare fish dishes. I recommend to make a small stop here to be supported in one of cafe overlooking the sea.

If there is a desire to try the real fish delicacies, it is worth reaching by bus to Monnikendam (from Marken and from Volendam minutes 10 - 15). In the town there is a quite good museum which was located in To Clock tower . Hours on it and in the truth unique, a chiming clock vyzvanivat a melody under which of special windows on the dial there are knights. But, perhaps, the main sight of the town - a peculiar fish kitchen. Here according to ancient recipes prepare gentle and very tasty smoked fish whom it is possible to try in several cafes.

If there is a desire to look at the city where schoolboys turn into the venerable scientists applying for Nobel Prizes go to Leiden. Buildings of the university, oldest in Holland, can be met in the different ends of the city here, but the main are located in historical part. Near the main university cases the big botanical garden conducting the history since the 16th century. In it the botanist Charles de Lecluz (better known under the name of Klyuzius) grew up the first tulips which for a long time are the hallmark of the country.

In the city there are a lot of very interesting museums. Lakenkhal in whom except the mass of historical artifacts are presented Rembrandt`s picture, his teacher Jacob Van Swanenburga, Jan Steen, Jan van Goyen, and also the well-known triptych of Loukas van Leyden " would advise to visit; Last Judgement . The house in which the artist was born, and Latin school in which he studied four years will be interesting to fans of creativity of Rembrandt. Not far there is an ancient Gothic Lutheran church in which many notable residents, including Rembrandt`s parents are buried.

In Leiden the museums of an applied historical orientation which part has the status of the national are very interesting. These are the museums of antiquities, ethnology, natural history, surgery, mill business, pilgrims and archaeological park. In the city there are a lot of historical buildings and constructions, including the remains of strengthenings of the 12th century.

The small town of Delft had traditionally close trade connection with Russia - the homeland it is white - blue faience. The faience tiles made here in a large number were delivered to St. Petersburg from where dispersed on all empire. In noble houses revetted with them furnaces. Except the well-known tiles in the city made a set of products from faience, from chamber-pots and tureens to graceful cups and vases. From Amsterdam to Delft it is possible to reach by train (about an hour), from the Hague by regular tram (15 minutes), and from Rotterdam by bus or the train (15 - 20 minutes).

Tourists come to Delft to learn history of the well-known faience and to buy original souvenirs, and also for the sake of visit of the palace Prinsenkhof and tombs of the dynasty of Oransky located in Lutheran church on the Market square. Besides, in the city several museums, including very interesting Museum of royal army. Among the mass of ancient constructions the particular interest is caused by a belltower of Old Lutheran church which for seven centuries which passed from the end of its construction deviated aside on 2 meters. Of course, not so considerably, as at the well-known tower in Pisa, but it is very curious. In this Lutheran church the famous artist Jan Vermer and the inventor of a microscope Antoni Levenguc is buried.

Buying souvenirs in Delft, keep in mind that the real delftsky faience is not cheap and is on sale in company little shops in the downtown or at the factory (manufactory) where for tourists conduct interesting tours. On the real faience surely there has to be a brand of a royal manufactory. All the rest - imitation and fakes, including quite qualitative. An original souvenir can become and local blue cheese (Delfts Blau), this grade is considered the best among Dutch cheeses with a blue mold.

In short article it is impossible to describe all cities of the Netherlands, interesting to tourists. This is Alsmer where there takes place the world`s largest auction of flowers. Arnhem where in the museum more than 80 ancient Dutch constructions are under the open sky collected, and from the city is in 6 kilometers National park Hove - Velyuva with a large museum complex (a fine collection of painting, only Van Gogh of 200 works). Gouda where there take place cheese fairs, and in the local museum collected an interesting collection of the Dutch painting. Narden in whom the medieval fortress turned into the museum remained. Utrecht with a mass of historical sights and the museums. Amersfort in whom serf gate remained and in the monastery settled down the culinary museum and restaurant at which give dishes of ancient Dutch cuisine. Madyurodam, where tiny copies of the main sights of Holland are collected in the museum under the open sky. This list can be continued long.

In principle, it is possible just to point a finger at the map of the Netherlands, choosing the town for visit, or to descend from the train at any station. All cities of Holland are peculiar and interesting, and their inhabitants love and try to keep history.
