What does the capital of Austria attract tourists with? Museums and sights of Vienna. Part 2
B dvortsovo - the park complex of Hofburg located in the center of the capital of Austria is always a lot of tourists. The complex which included buildings and palaces of various architectural styles was created throughout several centuries, having become a true pearl of Vienna. It is considered that the first buildings for the residence of the Austrian governors on this place appeared in the 13th century. Now in buildings of a palace complex more than 2,5 thousand halls and rooms. There is an official residence of the president of Austria, the government and international institutions, national library and a significant amount of the museums. In palace parks it is possible to admire numerous sculptures, to have a rest in a shadow of century trees or to drink coffee in open cafe.
Ceremonial gate in Hofburg are located from Michaeler Platz Square (Mikhaeler platts), they are part of the majestic building with a graceful green dome built at Franz Joseph I. Tourists are usually attracted by not gate, and four big sculptural compositions which are near them representing The Labours of Hercules, and also two majestic fountains - “Macht zur See“ and “Macht zur Lande“ (Majesty of Austria at the sea and on the land).
For a start just I recommend to walk on a complex, to admire palaces and sculptures, and at the same time and to make the plan of visit of the museums. Someone will wish to bypass them everything, and someone will decide to visit only interesting most in his opinion. Surely pay attention to Sweizerhof ( the Swiss yard ) called in honor of personal guard of the empress Maria - Tereziya. It is one of the most ancient parts of the palace constructed in the 16th century. Usually the grandiose gate to the yard decorated with heraldic figures and symbols draw attention.
Amalienburg ( Amalia`s lock ) is opposite located where there lived the widow of the emperor Joseph I. On a lock facade interesting hours, two-piece - with the ordinary dial and solar. Once there were personal rooms of the empress Elizabeth whom the Austrians called Sissi by “Sissy“. After Napoleonic wars during the Vienna congress the emperor Alexander I stopped here.
Leopoldinischer Tract ( Leopold`s wing ) as appears from the name, was constructed at the time of the emperor Leopold I. A wing this majestic building to call difficult especially as now in it the residence of the president of Austria is placed. Opposite to it one more wing - Reichskanzleitract (a wing of state office). It is curious that both wings much more Amalia`s lock which they from two parties adjoin.
Undoubted interest Stallburg ( court stables ) will cause the three-storyed building with very beautiful courtyard decorated with arcades. Here and today support horses of lipitsiansky breed. Nearby Winterreitschule (The Spanish school of riding) is located.
To the building of national library (National Bibliothek) can be passed on transition from the Swiss yard. The building is not so interesting outside as its interior decor, but about it is slightly lower. Having examined the library building, it is possible to pass through Burggarten (palace park) where there are Mozart`s statue, the House of butterflies, the Palm greenhouse. Here Neue Hofburg (New Hofburg) - the largest and last building of a palace complex on construction time leaves the back. Having bypassed it, it is possible to examine a magnificent semicircular facade of New Hofburga . Strangely enough, it is the wing but very enormous too. Opposite to it there had to be one more same, but World War I and falling of the empire Gabsburgov prevented. In this building several museums and a big reading room of National library are placed now.
By the way, for the sake of interest it is possible to pass from park in a palace complex through Burgtor ( castle gate ), their second name - “Gate of heroes“. This powerful five-arch structure is built after the end of Napoleonic wars as Napoleon ordered to destroy the previous gate in 1809. Originally gate were created as a fight monument against French at Leipzig, but then turned them into a memorial to the Austrians who died during World War I. Tourists have an opportunity to pass through the central arch of gate, earlier only the imperial family used such privilege.
Having examined Hofburg, it is possible to go to the museums located in it and in the neighbourhood. Usually tourists visit Imperial apartments, the Treasury, Sissi`s Museum, the Spanish school of riding and the Museum of history of arts.
Imperial apartments do not need comments - magnificently, but is graceful and not without taste. A peculiar continuation of apartments is Sissi`s Museum in which everything that accompanied life of the Austrian empress - toilets is presented, jewelry, accessories and various ladies` knickknacks, and also furniture, pictures, interiors etc.
to expand idea of “modest“ life of the imperial yard, once visits the Treasury (Schatzkammer) in which relics for more than one thousand years are collected. Are most interesting - a crown of the Sacred Roman Empire (962 g) and a ceremonial sword (13th century) . Besides, crowns of late times, imperial regalia, various relics, jewelry, jewelry, awards, coins.
The Spanish school of riding is extremely curious or the Museum of lipizzian (Lippizianer Museum) is a complex from stables, an arena (the magnificent hall in style of late baroque) and actually the museum. Once here trained in horsemanship the Austrian nobility, and at the beginning of the last century horse performances before public began here. Horses of lipitsiansky breed were delivered in the 16th century from Spain, as gave the name to all complex. The museum and the operating stables are interesting, but the greatest impression is made by performance in an arena which is even called the horse ballet - the memorable show.
Except the listed museums it is possible to visit Meeting of the weapon and musical instruments, the Ethnographic museum, the Efessky museum, library halls where books fade into the background in comparison with magnificent registration - lists, sculptures, pictures, unique globes etc. of
the Museums of history of arts and it is natural - historical are located near a palace complex and formally do not enter it. Between the museum buildings resembling palaces, beautiful park with a majestic sculpture of Maria superficially - Tereziya in the center. In it is natural - the historical museum the richest collection, in total more than 20 million exhibits, including weight unique, for example, the biggest topaz in the world which weight exceeds 117 kilograms.
In Museum of history of arts fine art gallery (one of the best in the world) in which more than 250 thousand cloths are collected. Here it is possible to see Velasquez, Vermeer, Veronese, Duerer, Rubens, Rembrant, Titian, Bosch, Pieter Bruegel, Loukas Kranakh`s masterpieces, etc. Big departments are devoted to culture and art of Ancient Egypt and the Ancient East. The exhibition of archeological finds in the territory of Austria, on it is of a certain interest, for example, the Roman mosaic of the 2nd century found in the district of Salzburg is exhibited. Rich collections are presented in departments of numismatics, ancient and decorative art.
In the neighbourhood with Hofburg there is the whole museum quarter and several very interesting art galleries, but about them in the following part of article.
