What does the capital of Austria attract tourists with? Museums and sights of Vienna. Part 1

Vienna, the capital of Austria , is beautiful at all seasons of the year. Unique color to the city is given by numerous ancient buildings, Gothic cathedrals, monuments, well-groomed parks and a significant amount of the most interesting museums. Even to visit only the main museums and sights of Vienna, several days will be required. It is the simplest to begin acquaintance to the capital of Austria with historic center of the city.

For a start I recommend to be passed down the street by Ringshtrasse by tourist tram in which passengers have an opportunity to use the audioguide in Russian. The ring route passes the tram approximately in 25 minutes. During this time tourists have an opportunity to see the main sights located in the center of Vienna and to obtain about them the main information which will allow to plan the subsequent routes of survey of the city. It is not difficult to be guided in the city. It is possible to buy or receive free of charge in tourist information points, hotels, the museums the detailed scheme of Vienna in Russian with transfer of all museums and sights, and also transport routes.

Survey of old part of the city can be begun with visit of a Gothic cathedral of Saint Stefan which is considered the main temple of Austria. The cathedral is impressively enormous, and one of its towers (southern) directed up on 135 meters. On a tower there is an observation deck with which the tremendous view of the city opens. On it the narrow spiral staircase in 343 steps on which rise becomes serious test for tourists conducts, but an opportunity to get a bird`s eye view of all Vienna is worth it. One more observation deck is on an unfinished northern tower. This platform is much below, the view from it is worse, but also powerful advantage - the elevator is had.

The cathedral is not less interesting, than the look opening from it. Its construction began in the 12th century, subsequently it was repeatedly completed and restored after destructions and the fires. The last archeological excavations allow to assume that in the 9th century on the place of a cathedral there was a chapel.

The cathedral decorates a significant amount of the sculptural images created in the Middle Ages, value of some of them all - that is not solved. On roofs and drains chimeras and various mythological beings who as envisioned by ancient architects had to drive away evil spirits from believers were placed. Persons interested can go down under a cathedral in catacombs in which many centuries were spent burials - not a sight for the faint of heart.

Life of many celebrities is connected with Saint Stefan`s cathedral. Here Mozart got married Konstantion Weber, from here his body after burial service was brought to a country cemetery. By the way, the house museum of Mozart is literally in several minutes of a way from a cathedral on Domgasse Street.

From the interesting objects located near a cathedral it is worth looking at the famous city clock Ankerur. This big, but very graceful construction from copper, bronze and marble is between two buildings at the most ancient Vienna market square of Hohen Markt. Over the dial it is possible to make out two sculptures - the child with a butterfly symbolizing life, and a skeleton with hourglasses - a death symbol. On the one hand bible Adam and Eve, and with another - an angel and a devil support hours. On the square it is desirable to get by 12 o`clock, then there is an opportunity to see the whole representation. In front of the dial the representing main stages of history of Vienna will move accompanied by the corresponding music of a figure of celebrated personalities. Procession there begins the emperor Marcus Aurelius who is considered as the founder of the city, and Josef Haydn finishes. Show colourful and very curious.

On the same square the graceful Betrothal fountain representing Iosif and Virgin Mary`s betrothal is located. It was built according to the order of the emperor Leopold I considering Saint Iosif as the heavenly defender of the son and the successor Joseph I. Return of the son live of a heavy military campaign was the cause.

Not far old Jewish quarter (Judenplatz Square) where the medieval synagogue, the museum and a memorial to the Austrian Jews who died during World War II is located was placed.

Near St. Stefan`s cathedral there are three more interesting churches which should be examined. It is church of an award of Jesuits in the center of old university quarter. It is distinguished by not just rich, but very magnificent internal furniture which somehow is not matching asceticism of Jesuits. The church of franciscan order looks more modest, but, in my opinion, more gracefully though artists and sculptors of an era of baroque worked at its ornament. Before its main portal the small fountain with very expressive sculpture of Moisey. Saint Pyotr`s church is small by the size, but is very beautiful. It is considered that on this place of church more than one and a half thousand years are constructed already, and the first temple was built even at the time of domination of Romans. If carries, in St. Pyotr`s church it is possible to listen to an organ concert on which entrance free. About time of the scheduled concerts it is possible to learn from the announcement.

From St. Pyotr`s church it is possible to pass to three interesting objects - the Plague column, the Providention fountain and an imperial tomb. Plague columns can be seen in many cities and monasteries of Austria, they were established after disposal of the next epidemic which periodically visited Europe. The marble column in Vienna was established in 1693. On it a sculpture of the emperor Leopold I praying for disposal of citizens of an illness and mass of allegorical figures.

In front of the fountain representing the beauty Providention with a snake, an immortality symbol, and four figures representing the largest rivers of Austria tourists like to be photographed. Nearby several summer cafes where it is possible to have a rest and try local delicacies. Once there was a tavern which owner had a beauty the daughter who served if to trust the legend, the sculptor Raphael Donner model for the main figure of the fountain.

In the imperial tomb located under the monastery of kaputsinets there are burials of 147 representatives of a dynasty Gabsburgov. The first buried at the beginning of the 17th century of the emperor Matthias and here his spouse Anna which began to build a tomb. The last burial took place in 1989 when here Zita (Zita), the last empress of Austria found rest. Earlier in a tomb there was also a sarcophagus of the illegitimate son Napoleon Bonaparte from the Austrian ertsgertsogina, but then it was transferred to Paris in the Nursing home.

Having examined the place where Gabsburgov buried, it is possible to pass to a palace complex of Hofburg where the Austrian emperors carried out considerable part of the life, operating the enormous empire. In Hofburge took place many interesting museums and historical objects, but about it in the following part of article.
