What to wait from 4G for - LTE?
technologies of mobile communication take root Now more and more deeply into lives of people. The existing standards offer subscribers not only voice calls and a SMS broadcast. The increasing distribution is found by multimedia services and services of data transmission. And the cost of the last gradually approaches the cost of services of wire Internet access in a dedicated line. Besides, thanks to emergence of 3G networks of speed of data transmission were made even to the existing technologies of wire Internet access.
It gives a big impetus to significant increase in volumes of a packet transmission of data in the future. However the speeds of data transmission provided today will satisfy subscriber requirements in the long term only for several years ahead. The volume of transmitted data on telecommunication communication networks constantly increases. New services which are provided by mobile operators also demand bandwidth expansion. All this as a result will lead to the fact that 3G networks will not answer inquiries of subscribers in the next decade and the new standard of high-speed wireless mobile communication will be required.
For the purpose of creation of such network of cellular communication which would satisfy needs of both subscribers, and operators for several years ahead in 2004 development of the standard of mobile communication of the fourth generation - LTE (Long Term Evolution) was begun. Work on it is conducted by the organization 3GPP (3rd Generation Partnership Project). Already at the very beginning of work the following principles were at the center put:
• Increase in capacity of system and reduction of cost of transfer of one bit of information.
• Achievement is considerable higher speeds of data transmission in comparison with the existing systems of the third generation. Purpose: at least 50 Mbit/sec. - uplink (from phone to a base station), 100 Mbit/sec. - downlink (from a base station to phone).
• A bigger covering due to use of higher speeds of data transmission on wider area of a covering and flexibility in use of frequencies of the standards 2G and 3G involved by systems and new frequency ranges.
• Achievement of higher capacity of system, to 3 - x times in comparison with the existing systems - is more than services for smaller cost for the subscriber.
By May, 2010 the tenth release of the LTE standard - Advanced was already let out. The Advanced prefix was added after efforts of two organizations were combined: 3GPP and IMT - 2000 in which the IMT standard - Advanced was developed.
The first-ever commercial network of cellular communication of the LTE standard was started at the end of 2009 in Sweden. It is already known that many operators in the developed countries plan to start the LTE networks in the next 2 - 3 years including Russia. In our country auction at which frequencies for networks of this standard were played was already carried out. Some operators started testing of LTE.
If to speak about the equipment for LTE standard networks, then the majority of the leading companies specializing on release of the telecommunication equipment already propose solutions for mobile operators. Besides, in the market of cell phones there are already models supporting this standard. It is possible to tell with confidence that in the next several years there will be a sufficient choice of the subscriber equipment for reasonable price since producers experienced prospects of this standard and try to manage to fill the market before arrival of competitors.
Thus, LTE is a standard of the fourth generation. The networks of cellular communication built according to this standard provide data transmission with a speed about several hundred megabits a second (for Rel. 10 - 324 Mbit/sec.), have the high capacity and energy efficiency. All this gives the grounds to say that the LTE networks are very perspective as they on the one hand solve the operator`s problems, and on the other hand at the sufficient level satisfy requests of subscribers for long prospect.
