May 17 - World day of information society. Let`s glance in the beginning?
on March 26, 2006 the United Nations General Assembly adopted the resolution in which it proclaimed on May 17 the World day of information society. This date is chosen not incidentally.
The matter is that on May 17 in 1865 in Paris the first international Cable Agreement was signed, and the cable Union, and since 1932 - the International Union of Telecommunication was founded.
Our today`s world - the world of globalization of information. It something is madly interesting - to learn constantly new, to learn what was inaccessible earlier, - not for understanding no, just because of lack of a possibility of obtaining information per se, in any case, in such scale.
On May 17 - a professional holiday of all programmers, editors the Internet - editions, a web - the designers, system administrators and all people occupied in the sphere of information technologies. Till 2006 this day was celebrated as the International day of telecommunication or the World day of telecommunications.
By right it is possible to call modern society information. Whom you will surprise with such terms how a computer mouse, the keyboard, the monitor or a flash card now?
And hitherto unknown word “gadgets“? It would seem what it can designate? And it only original, non-standard adaptation. Gadgets it is possible to call any digital device, rather small today to put on a hand or to connect to the computer. They are distinguished by portability, small weight (to 300 g) and the small sizes allowing them to find room in pockets. But … this small retreat.
We will return to a subject of information technologies and we will try to define sources of this now of the huge river, even falls of tools for information transfer. So what is is possible to carry to the beginning of development of information technologies?
The invention in 1898 of radio? For the first time Popov A. S. showed the device capable to catch radio waves, on May 7, 1895 in the physicist`s Russian - chemical society. It was the prototype of the modern radio receiver. The coherer - the small glass tube filled with sawdust was its main part. The antenna was attached to a coherer, and other end connected to grounding.
Military seamen became interested in Popov`s experiences at once. At that time the ships going to the sea completely lost touch with the coast, and the wireless telegraph was simply necessary. However the first the package of documents for the invention of radio was issued by the Italian physicist Ghiglielmo Marconi. Only in 1898 in Russia the radio communication at distance more than 40 km was carried out. Great achievement for those times.
Even earlier, in 1838, Samuel Morse offered the cable alphabet. Manual transfer of the text by means of the Morse alphabet is made by means of a cable key, such way of communication was used up to the end of the eightieth years of last century, and also an electronic radio key. The Morse alphabet - means for transmission of messages in places where other means of communication are inaccessible (for example, in prisons). In 2004 the International union of telecommunication entered into the Morse alphabet a new code for a symbol @ for convenience of transfer of e-mail addresses.
Recently understand computer technologies as information technologies. Use of information systems the most diverse. It is economy, medicine, geography, design... not to list everything. Yes, actually, in our modern life there is, probably, no area which is not captured by information technologies.
However not still use these unique opportunities for self-improvement, self-knowledge, for self-education. And, among other things, such look information is convenient also that it always near at hand. Summing up the result, it is possible to tell with confidence that today in the form of information technologies we have the powerful tool for receiving various extensive knowledge.
And on May 17 - we will celebrate the day of the World information society!
