Gladioluses. When and how to put them?

If a rose - the recognized queen of flowers, then a gladiolus - the king! Its magnificence and grace will not leave indifferent any judge of refined plants. Any flower will not be compared to it on a variety of forms and the sizes of a nimbus, and especially on color scale which includes different shades from white to almost black.

Selection achievements in work with gladioluses reached such heights that are capable to satisfy any whim of the flower grower. Annually world catalogs join hundreds of new magnificent grades, each time it is more and more striking with the beauty and eccentricity.

So why not to grow up this beauty at itself at the dacha? Believe, it quite on forces not only flower growers with a wide experience. And I will still just share the technology.

Preparation for landing

begin to Prepare for

bulbous tubers of gladioluses for landing in 15 - 20 days prior to the planned date. They need to be cleared of integumentary cheshuy and to examine attentively on existence of diseases or wreckers. The healthy bulbous tuber has a brilliant dense surface, already turned up thick kidneys and rudiments of backs in the form of thick hillocks. Dried out, softened, strongly mouldy or yazvochka of a bulb it is necessary to throw out. Small shining darkly - brown specks of a scab or fusariosis can be treated: they are carefully cut off a sharp knife and grease a cut with brilliant green. Before landing the wound will drag on epidermis.

Bulbous tubers display in one - two layers up kidneys for a prorashchivaniye in heat the light place protected from direct sunshine. It is not necessary to humidify them, otherwise it will cause the strengthened growth of backs which when landing all the same will break off that growth of plants will detain. Correctly prepared bulbous tuber before landing has to have root hillocks no more than 3 mm and sprouts from 1 to 10 cm. Those that during a prorashchivaniye did not give either backs, or sprouts discard.

Anyway irrespective of, sick bulbous tubers were found or not, they need to be pickled before landing in solution of a fundazol (an oksikhom, a fitosporin) about 30 minutes or at least in strong solution of potassium permanganate. Before landing of the child exempt from dense cheshuy and too pickle in fungicide solution within 20 minutes, but concentration of solution has to be twice weaker. Such prelanding processing is necessary for disposal of causative agents of diseases and small wreckers.

Which - that about children

1. Healthy children have a pure surface, without spots and damages, not withered and not dried out, with a diameter from 4 - 5 mm and more.

2. If children much there is also no time for their cleaning, then before landing it is necessary to soften their firm cover. For this purpose they are killed in weak solution of potassium permanganate on 10 - 12 h, or in 1% soda solution on 1 - 2 days. The cover becomes soft and does not prevent germination.

3. Pay attention: from the large child, but with one root hillock, less strong plant, than grows from the small child, but with 3 root hillocks.

4. Children can keep viability till 4 years on condition of preservation of integrity of an integumentary cover.

Landing

the Place for cultivation gladioluses choose

rather solar, protected from norths, avoiding the low-lying rehumidified sites. The soil has to be friable, but not loose, rather moisture capacious, but not too heavy.

Gladioluses it is enough cold-resistant, but all - is recommended to plant them to well heated-up soil (to +8+10 C at a depth of 10 cm). In a midland this term comes approximately after 20 - x dates of April . The bed is in advance carefully dug over, filling with the rerotting compost, fresh manure is inadmissible! Lack of organic chemistry is compensated, using mineral fertilizers during the whole season.

On a bed do trenches about 15 cm in depth - for large bulbous tubers, 7 - 9 cm - for averages and 5 cm - for children. If the soil rather easy and after watering strongly sinks, then when landing krupnotsvetkovy grades it is possible to bury large bulbous tubers to 20 cm. On a bottom of a trench it is desirable to fill a layer of coarse sand approximately in 2 cm on which they are placed, slightly pressing them into soil. From above powder wood ashes, again fill up with sand, water with warm solution of potassium permanganate and fill up with the soil, having accurately leveled a surface.

Use of sand is not an indispensable condition, but thanks to such technique it is possible to optimize structure of too heavy soils and to save bulbous tubers from diseases, and in the fall - it is easy to take them from the earth together with the formed children. The distance between bulbous tubers among is done depending on their size: between large - from 10 to 15 cm, between averages - no more than 10 cm, for children - from 3 to 7 cm. Row-spacings leave about 30 - 35 cm wide

For acceleration of emergence of shoots can cover a bed with a film, having built a tunnel by means of a thick wire. At frosts the appeared shoots cover or just hill the earth. Right after landing or after mass germination of gladioluses the surface of a ridge is mulched, for example, humus a layer of 5 - 7 cm. The mulch will protect a surface from drying, overcooling and an overheat, will muffle weeds and will serve as additional top dressing.

A gladiolus - a perennial plant, but it cannot winter in an open ground in the conditions of our climatic zone therefore it is cultivated as an odnoletnik. For a midland it is better to choose grades with early and average terms of blossoming, late at adverse weather can be late with blossoming and ripening of bulbous tubers.

I hope, these councils will help fans to grow up magnificent flowers.
