How to dry and store bulbs of flowers not to mix a grade?
It is no secret that it is not enough to dig out bulbs, important still to wash out them, to process, to dry up and keep well before landing. And it is considerable work. Today I will tell you about our experience of processing and storage of bulbs of tulips, narcissuses, gladioluses, i.e. those plants which need to be dug out, pickled and dried before the following landing. This way allows to save both forces and time.
At first about a task.
1. It is necessary that bulbs of one grade were gathered. And some grades accrue very much and it is even too good, i.e. there will be many bulbs and some give absolutely small gain.
2. It is important that bulbs after washing easily dried, and after drying-out were conveniently and compactly stored
3. It is necessary that bulbs were marked and names of grades were well visible.
4. Tulips and gladioluses have also children, and not just bulbs. And they will have a term of drying less, respectively some time it is necessary to store them separately and to put too.
Now about in what way we solved it?
For certain in your household there will be old tulle curtains - both it is a pity to throw out and there are no place to put. Here they - that will be useful to us in the best way. And in this case kapron - will be the fact that it is necessary. At the same time consider that they have to be not strongly perforated and it is desirable without the dense knitted or color drawing, and white or some other color - it is not strongly important.
So - we cut out the sacks having the sizes in finished form:
- 25õ40 and more;
It is easy to cut since tulle not such dense fabric as a chintz and on drawing it is visible share threads. I did so that sacks had one integral party, i.e. preparations were the sizes for example - 10x30 or 20x15 etc.
For tailoring we will need strong mylar threads and tesemochka, it is possible any for example, from old jersey or I cut off dense edge of the same tulle, the main thing that it did not makhritsya and was not showered.
Further sacks are very easily and quickly sewed. I sewed, having receded 1 cm from edges and in 2 - 3 cm from top the general line sews a tesemochka. At the beginning and at the end of a seam we do clips that seams did not disperse, sacks are very intensively and not strongly carefully used.
At us, for example, approximately on 100 pieces of each size. In the biggest very productive varieties, are stored in averages less, and in small either novelties, or the child, and, this small sack would be put in ỏ lshy with the same grade.
In a sack the knife with the name of a grade is located, or it is possible to write on a cardboard the handle, but such metochka are used only once. Much more conveniently at a vykopka at once to put a knife in a bucket or other capacity, and later, to put the onions cleared of dirt in a sack and to put in it a knife. I already wrote that the inscriptions made a permanent marker are not washed away and are not erased. One knife serves several years, its handle will not break yet. And I use sacks more than 6 years, very seldom it is necessary some to repair. Also that, having the standard sizes and strong sewed - sacks are erased, develop and are accurately stored their plus to the following time.
Considering that onions will be washed out, at least from dirt, we put them not really densely, i.e. we do not fill a sack. Then even to pull out bulbs there is no need, in wooden boxes we stack sacks so that onions settled down in one layer. We use boxes fruit of plates, 7 - 10 cm high, legs on 3 - 5 cm from above act, at the expense of it between boxes good ventilation remains. After drying in the same sacks and boxes, besides without untying and without taking out bulbs, just putting more compactly, landing material is also stored.
Besides bulbs it is possible to dry and store large seeds in sacks, or to remove heads of flowers if there come frosts. So we collect a calendula, barkhatets, onions. As you already understand, and dry and then seeds are stored in the same sacks - put once, and then we get already before landing.
Thus, a lot of time which the flower grower always knows where to spend is saved!
