What history Thunder - a stone? Part 3

the Thunder - the stone which since a glacial time was standing in eight versts from the coast of the Gulf of Finland according to S. G. Vishnyakov`s proposal is decided to be used as a pedestal of the well-known Bronze Horseman. On the way to the capital masons, and splinters of different size already began to process it, up to solid by the sizes, accompanied a way of a boulder as if noting milestones its route.

In particular, they remained also near that pine which locals esteemed a monument to Peter I for rescue drowning, made on November 1 - 2, 1724. The largest received even the corresponding own name - the Big stone. Later the church for the sake of Saint Apostle Peter was near constructed.

... The pine fell in 1924, the chapel is demolished in 1930 - e, the church is closed, and then turned into movie theater... And till 1991 when she began to act again, only the Big stone remained a memory tag to former events.

And at Senate Square where the main work on a pedestal construction was carried out, there was a set of different-sized fragments too. Peterbuzhtsa, showing the strongest interest in construction of a monument to Peter I, were very eager for souvenirs from these splinters - for memory, so to speak. Where they dispersed - it is for certain unknown.

There is a legend according to which among them there were inventive pragmatists which guessed to use stones for personal needs: who ordered from them inserts to cuff links, who - a knob for a cane, who - a ring.

But in one antique shop such bagatelles did not meet yet that gives the grounds to historians to deny reality of the similar address with splinters the Thunder - a stone. However, maybe, will still be found? Here it would be interesting to look!

But we will return to those times about which the story. At Etienne Maurice Falcone, the author of a monument to Peter I at Senate Square, the relations with the power spoiled. The cause is there was more and more aggravated conflict with I. I. Betsky, the President of Academy of Arts.

The divergence in creative views which turned into the accruing and barefaced personal hostility became its reason. Both quarreling parties complained to the empress at each other while at last the French sculptor was not accused by I. I. Betsky of waste of public money.

As a result of Falcone, without having finished a monument construction, left Russia, and did not fail to take with itself the fragments which became fashionable the Thunder - a stone. However, in relation to it the fashion as you understand, could not be the paramount cause.

Continuation of the mentioned legend says that upon return to Paris (with a long stop in Holland) it began to give these splinters to friends and acquaintances, and allegedly here application was soon found for them too: stones began to put in order precious metals, and women of fashion sported before each other, showing new jewelry.

The fact that the sculptor took with himself for memory of a particle the Thunder - a stone is represented very plausible. The monument which thanks to A.S. Pushkin began to be called subsequently as the Bronze Horseman was matter of his life which to it was not brought to be finished. And even to his Falcone`s opening it was not invited. Sent to the master only two medals which were definitely not made from the Thunder - a stone. And he began to cry...

The rock on which Peter I`s horse, and its splinters, perhaps was reared is majestic, dispersed on different parts of the world - how many to the people left Russia after revolution of 1917 and how many Parisians parted on the world!

There are stones which move in itself, sometimes even hiding from a human eye, but is also such which move at will of the person. But and the person - that goes where will want, and is persecuted or compelled that to moving...
