The biodiesel from seaweed - fuel of the futureBiodiesel (biodiesel) is one of types of biological fuel which is made on the basis of vegetable or animal oils (fats), and also products of receiving esters from acids. Depending on raw materials a certain production technology of the biodiesel is used.
Application for production of the biodiesel of the following types of raw materials is possible: vegetable oil (rape, sunflower, palm, soy and so forth) ; animal fat; seaweed; rubber and plastic. The biodiesel, as a rule, from vegetable oil or seaweed and therefore, is a long-living power source turns out. The biodiesel from colza (biofuel from colza) - is rather widely used in Europe now, and seaweed are considered as more perspective source of raw materials.
The representative of the company making biofuel counted that if to replace all diesel fuel used in the USA with biofuel from seaweed, then it will be required to sow green raw materials only 0,5% of farmlands of states to receive the necessary number of the biodiesel. For production of the biodiesel the seaweed containing a large amount of oil are necessary. These seaweed can be grown up as in usual reservoirs (in usual ponds), and in special bioreactors. Bioreactors occupy the small space and it is more convenient to choose seaweed for receiving the biodiesel from them.
In addition, differ from all other kinds of vegetable raw materials of an alga in the fact that they consume not specially prepared fertilizers, and CO2. At the same time seaweed so “ love “ carbonic acid that gain the weight several times quicker, exactly, on this food. If besides ooze to keep in the polluted water, its volume will daily increase twice.
One of options of receiving diesel fuel of seaweed is conceived in the USA. For production of the biodiesel of an alga absorb carbon dioxide and a sunlight. The SolarConverter installation resembles the solar battery superficially; between plates water solution in which seaweed settle down is concluded. The system does not demand agricultural grounds and big acreage. The first plant on production of biodiesel fuel from seaweed is planned to be started in 2011.
The second option assumes the installation consisting of a large number of transparent glass pipes. In them also there live the elementary water plants. Light, carbon dioxide, a forage and maintenance of a certain temperature is necessary for rapid growth. The forage includes special structure of chemical components and minerals. To supply seaweed with heat and carbon dioxide, the diesel - the generator working at the same biodiesel is used. The crop from the bioreactor is reaped in several hours, microorganisms - the most fast-breeding plants. At good leaving their weight increases twice in only 40 hours. From every portion of a product, vegetable fat from which the biodiesel is made is extracted.
Seaweed are applied special - Pancake week, with the content of fat to 80 percent.
The biodiesel can be used in simple internal combustion engines without change of their design. Use of the biodiesel as independent type of fuel, and in mix with usual (mineral) diesel fuel is possible.
There are data that the German and French companies releasing cars already produce a number of models of the cars which are specially adapted for mix of the biodiesel and traditional fuel or for use of the pure biodiesel, perhaps the Audi concern will decide to use this technology in the new development of hybrid Audi A8.
In plans of the European Union to bring receiving alternative fuel to 2015 - to 15 percent.
