Training in English in group: where truth, and where myths?

Before beginning learning of foreign language, people face a large number of information which has a direct bearing on future training. This information presents them with a choice: intensive courses or occupations of 1 - 2 time a week, the Russian-speaking teacher or the native speaker, well and the most concerning question - group or individual occupations.

Today I suggest you to consider features of training in a foreign language in groups and individually.

So it happens that when the speech comes about studying of English (or any other foreign), most of people believes that training in private with the teacher is preferable. Let`s try to understand why?

There are most often called reasons:

1. The group assumes presence of several people (students). Than their is more - less time will be found by that for separately taken student.

2. Until one student answers, others will do nothing and miss.

3. Written and oral homeworks are set, but, unfortunately, oral are checked not at all. Therefore the level of enthusiasm with which students start tasks decreases, and the quantity of outstanding tasks increases.

Of course, such arguments cannot but frighten. But whether it is possible to turn such shortcomings into advantages? And if it is possible, then how?

It is sure that now the majority of you thinks as follows: In group there are a lot of people - means, not enough attention will be paid to me . But whether you will think also if an opportunity in a different way is presented to look at training in group?

No matter, for what specific goal you needed knowledge of English (for work, for trips, for study), as a result everything is always reduced to communication. In different situations you will use words from different areas (at work - business - subject, on trips - words from a series rest and entertainments, on study - the words necessary for occupations), but this division into areas will happen during communication . In that case, why so a few people can quietly communicate after training? Because they to it were not taught.

Being engaged in private with the teacher, you get used to one pronunciation, to a certain often used words. You rejoice to the fact that he understands your English speech (losing sight of the fact that it is its direct duty). Your colloquial English improves and you begin to feel comfortable, speaking in English at its presence. But trying to start talking to foreigners (and sometimes even not to native speakers), you fall into a stupor and cannot utter words: the speech of the foreigner suddenly seems unclear, illegible, his accent sounds strange... But, allow and whether everyone has to be trained for the announcer of television before to talk to other person? And what if this foreigner is yours business - the partner with whom you (you, but not it) want to conclude the favorable contract?

But let`s return to training. Occupations in group, as if it did not seem strange, can provide you the lost link from a chain: training - practice - application in life. Your colleagues on training can be your interlocutors and assistants:

1) You will be able to perceive and to understand any pronunciation .

In order that upon termination of training you could perceive well the English speech of other person aurally, continuous training of this skill is necessary. In the future you will communicate in a foreign language with different people from the different countries having different accent, a different manner of conversation and a different pronunciation. Respectively, than more often you will hear the English speech of other people (for a start - others students - those who are trained on a course), the more surely you will feel in a real situation, communicating with foreigners.

2) You can receive a lot of colloquial practice .

to learn to talk in a foreign language, it is not necessary to learn and retell texts at all. It follows from this that if the lesson is constructed correctly as it occurs on our course, then just there are no situations one answers - all listen . And time such situation is absent, you should not sit and miss, driving away from yourself thoughts of leaving group and to be engaged with the private teacher. You just will have on it no time since 80% of all occupation you will practice a foreign language with the workmates. And in this case they will be already perceived not as people on whom precious time and as people thanks to whom you can improve the skills of communication and understanding of the English speech aurally is spent. You will be interested in listening and understanding the workmates since in the course of communication several people participate, and you just will not be able to stand aside.

You can experience such approach to training in group in practice, having visited a free introduction (fact-finding) lesson of English in one of our centers. Just wake up the next morning after a lesson and ask yourself a question: and what I remember from this, than we were engaged at a lesson yesterday? You will see that thanks to such technique it is possible to achieve desirable results, namely - to learn to tell (to communicate) in English.

I hope that after reading of this article, a conclusion which looked as: In group there is a lot of people - means a little attention to me " will be given to ; it will be reconstructed in more positive and aiming at good results conclusion: In group there is a lot of people - means will be much opportunities for practice .
